40K XCOM-like Chaos Gates Gets a Sequel

Frontier Developments and Complex Games have officially announced Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch, the highly anticipated direct sequel to their hit XCOM-like turn-based tactical RPG. Shifting focus to the Imperium’s premier alien-hunters, the new campaign tasks players with commanding an elite Deathwatch Kill Team to wage a brutal, turn-based war against seven distinct enemy factions, including Genestealer Hivecults, Orks, and the T’au. Hopefully, the game still launches later this year, meaning that we are going to be eating good with Dawn of War 4, Star Wars: Zero Company, and Deathwatch all coming right before Christmas!

The long-awaited tactical sequel Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus II has officially launched on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S as a headline release for the 2026 Warhammer Skulls festival, but the player reception has been mixed, with plenty of reports complaining about the game’s optimization and the lack of customization for characters, calling it a departure from the previous game. In my impressions, I was relatively positive of it, but that might have been because I haven’t played the original a whole lot. Developed by Bulwark Studios, this grimdark turn-based strategy game massively expands upon the original cult favorite by introducing two full-length playable campaigns, allowing fans to command either the cybernetic Adeptus Mechanicus or the ancient, awakening Necron dynasties.
