10 – Door Kickers
Riddle me this: what do you get when you take the planning phase of the early Rainbow Six games and make it into a full game? Well, you get Door Kickers. Players must plan missions in detail, from their troops’ movements to cones of fire, equip their operatives with the best gear available, and then watch as they execute the missions flawlessly.
9 – Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds Saga
I don’t think enough people know about Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds Saga, so let me sell the game to you: It’s Age of Empires 2, but with a Star Wars skin on top of it, and I don’t mean that in a funny way. It’s literally that, and it’s glorious. I played the game as a kid and loved it. Guess what? I played it as an adult and loved it too.
8 – Halo Wars: Definitive Edition
Real-time Strategy set in the Halo Universe. Not the most in-depth of strategy games out there, but sometimes you just need a fun romp moving small soldiers around to blow things up, to relax for a couple of hours. Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is perfect for just that. Besides, it has a fun single-player campaign too.
7 – Napoleon: Total War
There are plenty of Total War titles you can choose from, with Warhammer being amongst the fan favorites right now, but when Total War: Napoleon came out, it took that top spot immediately, becoming one of the most beloved titles in the series. For the first time ever, the series dropped its century-wide, continental-scale approach in order to focus on a very specific time period in history, with the exploits of Napoleon being front and center.
6 – Iron Harvest
Iron Harvest is Company of Heroes with a dieselpunk aesthetic with mechs, set between World War 1 and World War 2. Players were always divided on how to feel about it, but if you want my opinion, I think it’s great for single-player, and a great take on the Company of Heroes formula of cover-based real-time strategy. If you’re into that, give this 5-dollar Steam Winter Sale 2025 deal a look.
