Strategy and Wargaming News – 30 August – Rainbow Six Tactics , Star Wars Zero Company, Heroes of Might And Magic III Remake And So Much More

This week been quite something, hasn’t it? With the extended look at GTA VI, the world was turning an eye to gaming. Then, to tag along, we also had Gamescom, where a couple of new and exciting projects were unveiled, like Rainbow Six Tactics and Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake. To top it all off, my most anticipated game of 2026, that being Star Wars Zero Company, also came out, and despite some technical oversights, the game is a masterpiece in game design. Let’s have a more detailed look, shall we?

Star Wars Zero Company Out Now – It’s The Best Star Wars Game Ever

Finally! My most anticipated strategy game of 2026 has come out, and I haven’t been able to stop playing it! I just put the damn thing down to write this news digest, and I can barely contain my excitement about going back into it. Star Wars Zero Company is a turn-based strategy game from Bit Reactor, and amongst its ranks count several members of XCOM and XCOM 2. In my first impressions, I called it a generational masterpiece, currently being marred by some technical oversights that are unexcusable and completely avoidable. The game is now out on Steam and consoles, and the regular edition will set you back 50 dollars.

Rainbow Six Tactics Brings Siege To Turn-Based Strategy

During Gamescom 2026, none other than Ubisoft has decided to come back from the dead and announce something that isn’t some random map collector slop like Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Rainbow Six Tactics is a turn-based strategy game set in the Siege universe, with the first-person shooter operators and their special abilities now being recruited to fight single-player turn-changing scuffles. The trailer makes the game look exceptional, with smooth gameplay, destruction mechanics (like Siege), gadgets, and even a strategic layer with threats showing up on the map, indicating to me that this will not just be a story-driven experience, but it will have some sort of dynamic campaign similar to XCOM. Exciting stuff!

Heroes of Might And Magic III Remake Fails To Impress

Less exciting was the news of the Heroes of Might and Magic III Remake, with longtime fans of the nearly three-decade-old original title pointing out the less-than-stellar work the team has done with the game’s art style. While I consider myself a fair person and reviewer, and will more often than not wait to play a game before passing judgment, I do have to agree that the game’s new art style doesn’t look all that inspired. Some 2D games’ art style is so unique because of their 2D limitations that moving them to 3D will never work out correctly. Even Age of Empires and Stronghold have struggled with that, and the 2D versions, even if updated to modern standards, are still superior to the games that came after.

New Broken Arrow DLC Brings The Russian Guard

Broken Arrow, the grand-scale, real-time tactics game from Slitherine that was a major hit in 2025, is getting a new DLC called the “Russian Guard,” and it’s coming out on September 1, and it will be priced at $9,99. Here’s what you can expect:

  • A new Russian Guard specialization for the Russian Faction;
  • 8 new infantry squads with 20 weapon loadouds that are unique to them;
  • 31 new units;
  • 2 maps and 2 scenarios featuring the Russian Guard;
  • A new AI army and a new hangar theme;

Each specialization in Broken Arrow has its very own place on the battlefield, and the Russian Guard brings a powerful array of support assets capable of providing extensive fire support, while also offering a very strong layer of anti-air defense.

  1. As I thought. The game of thrones…. game, looks like shit. Definitely a cheap chash grab, just like the three total war Warhammer slops. But really Humankind 2. I thought that game didn’t do well? Guess I should go back and play it again. It looked decent but if I remember right some of the mechanics wasn’t a good idea.
