15 – Cities: Skylines
Cities: Skylines is the best city-builder ever made. Yes, it’s even better than SimCity 4. There, I said it. The modding scene alone is enough to justify this purchase. There’s so much high-quality content created by the community that I can’t imagine a single city-builder going forward that can even begin to rival it in the long run. Even its predecessor failed to match the quality of the original.
14 – Divinity: Original Sin 2
Despite being more of a CRPG than a traditional strategy game, the turn-based combat of Divinity: Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition is really cool, with its abundance of moves, spells, weapons, and a lot of environmental and elemental interaction. The fact that the game is one of the greatest CRPGs of all time and has a really nice role-playing element around its turn-based fighting system is just a plus.
13 – Slay The Spire
Slay the Spire is a roguelike deck builder with a 97% overwhelmingly positive Steam review rating, with 70,000 reviews. Unless you’re on those remaining 3%, you’re good to go for less than 3 dollars.
12 – Civilization 6
The best Civilization to date is Civilization 6.
11 – Impossible Creatures
Before Relic Entertainment made Company of Heroes and Dawn of War, it created a strategy game called Impossible Creatures, where, instead of having regular units, you mash animals together to create the titular beasts. Your enemy does the same, and then you two fight. It’s a beloved cult classic with 23 years of age that’s still revered by a substantial part of the RTS community. I know what you have on your mind: Can you have a fish with the legs of a giraffe? Yes.
