This week’s Strategy and Wargaming News, your favorite all-you-can-eat buffet of what’s new around our beloved genres, is going to be a short, but sweet one. This comes as no surprise, since things have been winding down a bit as studios prepare, or are already on their Summer breaks. In fact, I can barely wait for mine! Well, let’s dive right in. We have a new gameplay trailer for Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000; Terra Invicta gets a new DLC, and there are even more details about the next Company of Heroes 3 DLC. Let’s jump right into it.
Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 New Gameplay Trailer
It’s no secret that Total War: WARHAMMER 40,000 is one of my most anticipated games for the future into the second half of 2026 and 2027 (depending on when it launches). This new gameplay trailer goes over a battle on the BiliBili, giving us a new glimpse at the units and tactics that will be available, including the Ork’s Stompa and the subsequent orbital strike that takes it down. Overall, I’m liking the way the game is going, even if I said on the Critical Moves Podcast that I would favor larger maps and a phase system that could make battles bigger at the scale that 40K should be. Tacticon Is Now Live

Firesquid and Hooded Horse have teamed up to give us Tacticon, a celebration of all that’s tactical and strategic! So, if you’ve missed out on buying those games during the Steam Summer Sale, you still have a chance to pick up games like Total War: Warhammer III, Manor Lords, and even the recently released Aethermancer, which I have been enjoying greatly.
Nightmare Frontier Leaves Early Access July 22

I have been playing a lot of the Early Access version of Nightmare Frontier lately, and I truly dove into it this past week and I have to say, this team has done an amazing job creating one of the most addictive strategy games of 2026. This is a tactical extraction looter (it self-describes as being the first of its kind), and its combat is heavily inspired by the likes of Into the Breach, where positioning and enemy manipulation are essential to win battles quickly and decisively. You might even see a review pop-up in the next couple of weeks.
Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition Gets a New DLC

Stronhold Crusader: Definitive Edition is getting its fourth DLC, and it’s called “The Surgeon and the Baibars“. It will add two new Lords and a new Trail of the Vulture with 9 missions. It’s coming out on August 4th of 2026. I’m always happy to see new additions to what is the best version of this classic title.
Battlefield Commander WWII Welcomes The USA Into The War

Here’s a game I need to give a second chance. Battlefield Commander WWII, a real-time tactical game that seems to be beloved by a substantial portion of its community, has just added the United States into the game, expanding the roster of available units substantially. The new faction includes 9 different infantry units and 12 vehicles (these range from the M3A1 Scout car to the Easy Eight Sherman). The update adds a 2 new maps, being Normandy Beach and the Battle of Mortain Hill 314, a new assault game mode, and a new USA vs Germany campaign.
