Panzer Corps 2 ($15.99)

The wargame to go to if you want a classic beers-and-pretzels experience. Panzer Corps 2 moved the series up to 3D, making it look a lot better, and added a scenario generator that endlessly creates maps for you to play in. In my opinion, the real value of Panzer Corps 2 is in the variety of its DLC, which can range from one that focuses exclusively on the action of a single division, to even fictional scenarios like the one where you can invade the US. If this is a bit too pricey for your wallet right now, you can have a look at Panzer Corps Gold, which is currently going for $7.49, a bit more expensive than usual, as I have seen this one go on sale for less than 2 american doubloons.
Strategic Command: World War I ($15.99)

If The Great War: Western Front is a fantastic real-time strategy, then Strategic Command: World War I is the best grand-strategy version of the conflict. There are also World War 2 games of the Strategic Command series, but I feel other games do a better job at it; in the World War I department, it’s unmatched.
The Operational Art of War IV ($17.99)

The most flexible wargame engine out there, The Operational Art of War IV, is capable of simulating any conflict (as long as it’s set in the 20th and 21st centuries) with some relatively decent degree of competency. Has a lot of content, going over several missions and theatres of war, from World War 2 to Desert Storm.
Grand Tactician: The Civil War (1861-1865) ($17.99)
Was Ultimate General: Civil War a bit too simple for your liking? If so, then let’s upgrade that to Grand Tactician, a beloved title that attempted to do something no other game dared to, and that was to bridge the grand-strategic elements of the American Civil War with the tactical battles, at a true-to-life scale. It works amazingly well, and if you have a budget for it, the Whisky and Lemons DLC lets you control a single officer over the course of the entire war, and the slow rise through the ranks is the best way to learn how to play this gem.
Burden of Command ($17.48)

My favorite wargame of 2025 was Burden of Command, a narrative and tactical tale of the hardships of command during World War 2, that sees players leading their company from their early days in boot camp, all the way to the last days of the war, deep into Germany. It’s brutal and emotional, but by far the most memorable World War 2 game ever made.
