30 Wargame Suggestions To Buy During The Steam Summer Sale 2026 – From The Cheapest To The Most Expensive

Cold Waters ($5.99)

Ever wanted to play a submarine game without having to go through a week-long course of YouTube videos and manual reading to learn what the difference is between a TASM and a TLAM, and understanding how caviation works? Pick up, Cold Waters. Designed by Killerfish games, it’s widely recognized by everybody as a top-tier pick for Cold War-era submarine warfare. It’s also extremely pretty, and how many wargames can you say you’re able to control using WASD? Not that many, I’m sure. But here, that’s how you move your sub. No need to learn how to cold-start a sub.

Field of Glory II ($5.99)

FoGII is the best and most glorious ancient-era turn-based strategy game ever made. Pick up Field of Glory II: Medieval as well, if you can, and there’s a feature that lets you mash and mash factions from both games, so you can finally learn who’s better: The English Longbowman, or a Roman Legionnaire? Or is it just me who asks those questions while my mind is drifting in and out of sleep?

Cauldrons of War – Barbarossa ($7.49)

Such a unique game with absolutely no other equal or close comparison on the market, Cauldrons of War – Barbarossa has you commanding the titular operation from your office, at a truly strategic level, deciding which area of the front gets resources and is the current priority. The best part? You can be done with a whole campaign in a single sitting.

Close Combat: Cross of Iron ($7.99)

The Close Combat series of titles was one of the first (if not the first) to bring the psychological aspect of warfare into the fray and put it at the forefront of combat as well. Each soldier has their own mental state, and that can dictate how they perform and act in combat, meaning that you no longer control a mindless collection of drones willing to do whatever you tell them to. If your orders are to run straight at machinegun fire, a guy under duress will refuse to, but one that’s feeling brave might do it. Close Combat: Cross of Iron is played through a bird’s eye view, but don’t let that deter you from finding enjoyment in what’s essentially the best title of the series.

War On The Sea ($7.99)

If you have already played Atlantic Fleet and want to sink your teeth into something with a bit more meat on its bones, I consider War On The Sea to be a worthwhile real-time naval combat title that has players commanding the United States war effort in the Pacific, going against the IJN. Also developed by Killerfish Games, the same company behind Cold Waters, it has a wide array of ships, aircraft carriers, submarines, and planes to command.
