30 Wargame Suggestions To Buy During The Steam Summer Sale 2026 – From The Cheapest To The Most Expensive

Scourge of War- Remastered ($9.49)

British forces waiting for battle in Scourge of War - Remastered

This one is, by a long shot, the best Napoleonic-era wargame ever created, in terms of complexity, scale, and detail. If you ever wanted to play a Napoleonic battle minute-by-minute, from beginning to end, with every small thing meticulously simulated, Scourge of War- Remastered is the game to get.

Arma 3 ($8.99)

Several vehicles going down a road in Arma 3

It’s Arma 3, what else is there to say that hasn’t already been said? If you want a game with limitless possibilities, and one that allows the creation of any military conflict starting in the 20th century, this is it. And this is it because the modding scene for Arma 3 is unlike anything else out there. This is the kind of game where you’ll find a mod for literally anything capable of being created in-game. Want some weird gun? There’s a 99% chance that someone has already created it, or is working on it right now. Want a map of a full city? Also exists. Want to recreate a war that has just started somewhere on the planet? Chances are, a full team of modders has already put something together. This is the definition of a never-ending game, and the real-time editor basically allows players the full freedom to design missions in 3D, as the mission develops. Fantastic stuff.

Warplan Pacific ($9.99)

In Warplan Pacific, one finds a more traditional hex-and-counter wargame, but one that captures the pace of the Pacific Warfare rather well. In my review of it, I praised its clean UI, mechanical simplicity, and the fact that it focuses on being fun instead of going the full realism route.

Ultimate General: Civil War ($11.99)

Two armies facing off in Ultimate General: Civil War

The best American Civil War wargame of all time, developed by the guy who made the Total War Darthmod. Pick Ultimate General: Civil War immediately if you enjoy delving into the conflict. The naysayers will keep telling you how Sid Meyer’s Gettysburg is better, but that’s just flat out wrong.

Attack At Dawn: North Africa ($11.99)

A fast-paced hex-and-counter wargame set in North Africa, which can be played turn-based and real-time. Attack at Dawn has a very clean interface, it’s easy to pick up and play, and there’s a ton of content too.

  1. Add task force Admiral to this list. It’s shaping up to be the finest ww2 naval pacific game in a long long time.
