The 20 Best Strategy Games To Wishlist For 2026 and 2027

1 – Total War: Warhammer 40,000

The number one spot on any of these lists is never easy to determine, mostly because it all comes down to how I’m feeling about a particular game when putting the article together, but after pitting Total War: Warhammer 40,000 against Star Wars: Zero Company, I have decided to go with the first because the idea of playing a new, massive Total War game with thousands of units, on a setting whjere combat is mostly done at range, something that Total War never attempted to, and the fact that it was confirmed that we are going to be able to fight across multiple planets is just so exciting.

Add, on top of all of that, the possibility of seeing one or two more games focused on expanding the 40K setting, and a space version of the massive Imortal Empires campaign from Total War: Warhammer Fantasy, and I already know that, if the game sticks its landing, it’s going to be one of the best strategy games of all time. I’m really hoping that Creative Assembly puts everything they have into making this as good as their Warhammer fantasy titles, and we will be golden! I don’t think the game is coming out in 2026, unfortunately, so I’m already keeping this one in the bag for 2027.

Conclusion

If you’re a strategy gamer, the rest of 2026 and 2027 are going to be filled with absolute bangers, so what are you waiting for? Start clearing your backlog from the first half of this year, and open up some space for Star Wars: Zero Company and Dawn of War 4. These two highly anticipated titles are just a couple of months away, and they’ll demand your full attention! I hope you enjoyed these previews, and I’ll see you around! Honestly at this point, I want better mechanics not graphics. Maybe it’s time to create my own RTS.

    1. Then try BAR. Best unit controls, cuing, and interactions of any RTS and it’s still free, looks great, and plays great. Just lacking a campaign and cutscenes.

      1. Great suggestion!
