Join me, and let’s jump right into the best collection of gaming news from this past week!

Stronghold 4 Delayed To April 2027

If you read my first impressions of Stronghold 4, you probably already know that I’m glad to receive the news of the game’s release date being postponed to a later date, because I really didn’t like what was on display at this Steam Next Fest. More precisely, April 20th, 2027. Despite the fact that the game has always been slated to come into Early Access, the team decided the game needed extra polish before launch, as well as taking into account the players’ feedback on how the game can be improved. However, the reasons go beyond that; in a very rarely seen act of transparency in the game industry, the second major reason is to shift the release window to give GTA 6 and Dawn of War IV time to shine, because let’s be honest, I’m a massive fan of Stronghold, but if I had to choose between DoW 4 and Stronghold 4, I know that my money is going into Warhammer. This kind of smart business decision is the kind the gaming industry could use more of. Now I’m hoping they remove the arbitrary progression, which doesn’t make any sense.

Ashes of the Singularity II Coming Out This Week

The release of Ashes of the Singularity II is just a couple of days away, as the most anticipated massive RTS (real-time strategy) from Oxide Games and Stardock Entertainment is coming out on November 10th. The game is taking the first-person scale into a new, never-before-seen scale in real-time strategy. I’m extremely interested in its single-player campaign that will pit the United Earth Forces against the Post-Human and Substrate. I did an interview a year ago with the team, and I came out of it inspired by their ambition to create something different, at a scale that’s sure to impress everyone. I’ll be reviewing it, so make sure you subscribe to Strategy and Wargaming to keep up to date with the best news and reviews of the strategy gaming world.

Workers & Resources Sells 1 Million Copies

Whenever you hear people talk about how niche games don’t sell, show them this: A city-builder where, instead of being a traditional capitalist, your role is to turn an impoverished soviet republic into an industrial powerhouse, and you do so by engaging with what’s possibly the most detailed systems of its kind. Congratulations to Workers & Resources, which has reached its 1 million copies milestone and is currently on Steam, with an 89% very positive rating and nearly 9,000 reviews.

Company of Heroes 3: Final Stand 3.0 Update and 2027 Roadmap

Company of Heroes 3, Relic’s latest foray into World War 2 just received its biggest update yet, and boy, it is a stunner! Here are 5 highlights, but the patch notes are so incredibly vast that I might have missed some stuff:

  • Visual & Atmosphere Enhancements: Update 3.0 introduces new weather effects (rain, snow, and mud), advanced lighting tools (such as unit lighting and a secondary sun), and support for wetness across all shaders to deliver darker, moodier Mediterranean front maps
  • Audio Revamp: Weapon firing sounds have been redesigned for greater impact and variation, incorporating classic soundtracks from both Company of Heroes 1 and 2 to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary.
  • New Maps & Biomes: The update adds new maps across various modes—including the 1vs1 industrial map Ancona Railyard, 3vs3 snow-covered Foggia Airfield, 4vs4 Turin Steelworks, and the fan-favorite return of Vire River Valley (2vs2).
  • Matchmaking & Anti-Cheat Improvements: A new hybrid matchmaking system evaluates team balance using average skill ratings alongside a strict 1,000 ELO party-range clamp to prevent exploitation, paired with faster anti-cheat bans and expanded Steam Family Sharing restrictions.
  • Gameplay & Pacing Adjustments: Changes to vehicle positioning, pacing, and starting resources (including higher starting manpower and a shift toward base fuel income) are designed to reduce early snowballs and balance the progression from early to late-game.

Going into 2027, Company of Heroes 3 already has a stacked calendar up until July, with January being reserved for a new map and multiplayer updates, March for Update 3.1, which will bring new maps and cosmetics and a new battleground for the Final Stand DLC. May will see another balancing patch for online brigadiers, and July will feature Update 3.2, which is comprised of 2 new maps, new cosmetics, and 2 new battlegrounds for Final Stand alongside more multiplayer balance changes. I still think that Company of Heroes 3 is now worth playing, even if the game had a rough launch.
