8 – Command & Conquer Remastered Collection

Command & Conquer is the series that defined the fast-paced RTS genre, and it’s incredible how it’s still one of the best real-time strategy games around. The Remastered Collection brings back the original Tiberian Dawn and Red Alert with beautiful 4K graphics and a modernized sidebar. The game has over 4 hours of B-roll footage, making-of photos, and unreleased music tracks unseen before by players. The Remastered Collection also brought mod support, custom game lobbies, and even the original console missions were ported over to PC.
7 – Starcraft: Remastered
Every single time I put together a list and don’t include some semblance of StarCraft, the comment section explodes with people demanding, “Why? Oh, why haven’t you put StarCraft in here? Don’t you know it’s one of the best games ever made?” I know, and I know that Starcraft is arguably the most famous strategy game in the world, too. While its competitive scene is legendary for being difficult, the single-player campaign is a fantastic tutorial for the genre. Starcraft Remastered preserves the perfect balance of the original three races- Terran, Zerg, and Protoss- while updating the audio and visuals. It is a piece of gaming history that still plays remarkably well today.
Total War: ROME REMASTERED

Rome: Total War is a game that every strategy player who started his career of virtual commanding in the 2000s played to exhaustion, so it’s no wonder that the first of the Total War remakes came in the form of Total War: REMASTERED. This remastered edition added 4K support and optimization, ultra-widescreen, and native UHD resolution support. Buildings and objects were remodelled, and the same goes for environmental effects. The in-game camera was improved, and 16 additional factions were added. A hefty upgrade, and the best way to go if you want to relive the glory days of Rome.
5 – Age of Empires: Definitive Edition

Obviously, no list about the best real-time strategy game remasters and remakes to play in 2026 could be complete without the game that started the obsession for many of us. Age of Empires: Definitive Edition is a faithful recreation of the 1997 original, which covers the dawn of human history, from the Stone Age to the Iron Age. Massive improvements to the game’s visuals, now with 4K remastered graphics, an improved soundtrack, multiplayer, enhanced pathfinding, and a better UI, make the Definitive Edition of Age of Empires so easy to jump into in 2026 that it would be a waste not to give this one a go. Better yet, the game often goes on sale for less than 5 bucks on Steam. It’s just a shame the team never worked on adding more DLC into the base game like they’re doing with Age of Empires 2.
