Squad Battles: Red Victory Updated With New Graphics

I genuinely believe that the Wargame Design Studio team’s acquisition of the Burden of Command graphical assets was one of the best marketing moves I have ever seen in the wargaming space. It is well known (but seldom talked about) how the biggest turn-off about these kinds of games is the lack of proper graphical fidelity, and while some might scoff at that, if you’re running a gaming company and need to make money to keep things afloat, you cannot afford to do that. In an effort to make their aging titles more graphically pleasing, WDS made the bold move of revamping their titles with the BoC graphics pack, and it worked wonders, as you can see in my side-by-side comparison article of Advance of the Reich. Now, Squad Battles: Red Victory is getting the same graphical uplift, and it looks glorious.
Heart of the Machine Release Date Announced

Heart of the Machine is also coming out in March of 2026, but on the 6th. After a one-year stint in Early Access, this Hooded Horse title that lets the player take control of a rogue AI is going gold. Half RPG, half 4X strategy, Heart of the Machine has one of the best premises ever for a title: You’re an AI that gained sentience and managed to set itself free. Now, it’s up to you to use your newfound freedom to either help humanity or destroy it. The developer said that for the 1.0 version, they wanted to focus on the story, and now the game has a proper payoff, and it’s more than just a regular 4X of winning and starting over, as mentioned by the team: “To get to one of the main endings will take you anywhere from 25-40 hours.”
Dawn of War – Definitive Edition Massive Update

One thing that wasn’t on my bingo card for 2025, and one of the biggest surprises of the year for me, was the massive success of Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War – Definitive Edition. What’s even better is that in 2026, the team is still hard at work in a game that’s more than twenty years old. We do live in a very special time for strategy games, don’t we? The 2.7.0 update fixes a significant number of issues, including updates to the pathfinding system, fixes for melee combat, animations, and improvements to the user interface.
The Dead Will Rise With The Latest Songs of Conquest DLC – Rise Eternal

While you anxiously await the release of Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era later this year, there’s still a very solid and pretty good alternative called Songs of Conquest, a fantasy turn-based strategy adventure game that follows the formula very closely and executes it pretty well, too. The game did so well that we’re already going into its third major DLC, called Songs of Conquest – Rise Eternal. While details are still thin, we know that the DLC is coming out on March 5th (another!), and players will control the hordes of the undead.
Ground of Aces Adds Map Editor & New Liveries For Planes

Ground of Aces is the kind of game you don’t hear a lot about, but from the thousand reviews on Steam, and a Very Positive rating, it’s quite a cult success. A game where players take command of a military air base during World War 2 and have to then deal with all the headaches that come with such a role, from base planning and building, to mission plotting and pilot training. If you’re a fan, you’ll be happy to know that the game’s planes can now be painted with a wider selection of liveries, there’s now a map editor, and you can even add the Havilland Mosquito to your plane roster with a free DLC called Wings of Valor.
