The fine folk at Slitherine were nice enough to allow me a sneak peek at their upcoming developer diary for Battleplan, one of the games I’m most excited for in 2026.
I will not be spoiling everything for you, but let me tell you that Slitherine took heed of what you all said during the previous Steam Next Fest and has since added a new way to command your troops called Zone Orders, which is completely optional and will work at the regimental level.
Draw an area, and said area is then split between multiple zones based on the number of regiments you have available, adding more well-defined areas of responsibility for each assigned regiment, which will allow you to allocate and adjust these allocations between zones as you see fit or needed to achieve success.

If you want to know more, be sure to check in to Battleplan’s Steam Page on Monday, the 11th of May, or go to Slitherine’s website to read all about this new system you asked for!
Don’t know what Battleplan is? Let me help you out: Battleplan is a grand-scale, historical World War II real-time strategy game that prioritizes realistic simulation and high-level command. Developed by Foolish Mortals Games and published by Slitherine, it tasks you with commanding entire divisions across massive battlefields from World War 2 modeled from real-world geographic data.
Rather than managing individual soldiers, you act as a high-level commander, drawing elaborate plans directly on the map and watching your officers and companies execute them autonomously. The game simulates days and week-long operations second-by-second, requiring a deep understanding of logistics, terrain, and the chain of command.
