Classic 101st Airborne in Normandy Landed On Steam

The eldest amongst you must have recognized that the 101st Airborne in Normandy recently arrived on Steam. The 1998 computer wargame developed by Interactive Simulations and published by Empire Interactive was well received by critics and players alike. The game is notoriously hard to run on modern systems, so be aware of that before you buy. Given this, I doubt the game will ever enter any Best Game D-Day Game of All Time lists.

The Boys Are Going To Gallipoli

BlackMill Games has cooked up some of the best World War 1 games and has become experts in translating the eponymous conflict into exciting multiplayer FPSs. After Verdun, Tannenberg, and Isonzo, they are taking their knowledge of World War 1 battlefield crafting and taking it to the seldom-seen battlefields of Gallipoli. The formula used for their previous games remains the same, with realistic and authentic environments, accurate weapons and uniforms, as well as exciting and hardcore “one shot, one kill” action.

Air Tactics Is A Free World War 2 Air Combat Game

An email from the developer of Air Tactics had escaped my grasp when it first arrived in my inbox, sometime last month. When I saw it, this week, I decided to give the lad’s itch.io webpage a view and I have to say that the project that’s “inspired by classics like Achtung Spitfire! and Over the Reich, and it’s aimed at players who enjoy tactical air engagements with minimal RNG and a strong historical flavor”, looks rather interesting and I would advise you all to download it and give it a go!

It’s completely free, and feel free to drop him some comments on how to improve the game. I could actually see this one become a fully fledged commercial game.

Archrebel Tactics Is a Sci-Fi TBS Inspired by Rebelstar

When most people are winding down for the Summer and are enjoying some time with their families and friends, MicroProse is out here announcing new games out of their wazoos. This time it’s Archrebel, a sci-fi, turn-based strategy wargame inspired by 1986’s Rebelstar.  You’ll be fighting for survival on the newly colonized planet of Kaprical in the vein of old Laser Squad and XCOM, using action points, managing a team of fighters and their inventories. The trailer above is pure 80s cheese, and I love it!

  1. It would be nice if DoW 4 included the hero building RPG elements in DoW 2, but it still looks great! Now that Definitive Edition has sold well, maybe we can get some tweaks (like a new campaign?) added to it as a reward for loyal customers.

  2. Decision Point and Archrebel Tactics look real interesting, but definitely going to need to see a bit more from them since they could either be super cool or totally lackluster.

  3. […] the upcoming release of the Concert of Europe DLC, I believe that 19th-century history buffs will start to see a lot of value in Strategic Command: […]
