Defensive Battleplan Plans Detailed In A Developer Diary

Slitherine released a very interesting account of what defensive operations will look like in Battleplan, their upcoming real-time wargame. From the looks of it, the game is going to be a lot more complex than what I originally envisioned (and I love it). Terrain and elevation will be critical for unit placement.

More surprisingly, this game finally tackles the idea that a frontline is supposed to be fluid: “Just because you start with a large amount of territory, doesn’t mean you need to keep it. Often, you have too few troops to properly defend the entirety of the frontline. It can be better to give up ground, and defend a narrower front or hold more favourable terrain.

A fluid defense is also a major part of the game, with “reserves” and “counterattack” orders being options available to battlefield commanders to mobilize their units to plug a gap when a frontline breakthrough happens. I really like what I’m seeing here, and with the game being set in Normandy, I can barely wait to get my hands on it.

Concert of Europe Announced And Beta Sign-Ups Open

The Strategic Command: American Civil War game is getting an expansion focused on the European conflicts of the 19th century called the Concert of Europe. This new DLC will add 5 new campaigns focused on the Crimean War (not that one), the unification of Italy, the Austro-Prussian War, and the Russo-Turkish War. The game also adds new units and a wide range of new events.

  1. It would be nice if DoW 4 included the hero building RPG elements in DoW 2, but it still looks great! Now that Definitive Edition has sold well, maybe we can get some tweaks (like a new campaign?) added to it as a reward for loyal customers.

  2. Decision Point and Archrebel Tactics look real interesting, but definitely going to need to see a bit more from them since they could either be super cool or totally lackluster.

  3. […] the upcoming release of the Concert of Europe DLC, I believe that 19th-century history buffs will start to see a lot of value in Strategic Command: […]
