15 – Timberborn
Timberborn is a very unique city-building simulator where beavers are the engineers of a new, post-apocalyptic world where humans have ceased to be. Featured prominently in the Epic Summer Sale 2025, this city-builder will challenge players to build intricate, multi-level settlements and manage dynamic water physics to supply their towns and survive devastating droughts. Its charming aesthetic and ideas, pretty damn deep resource management, and innovative dam-building mechanics offer a fresh take on the genre, making it a must-have colony management game for those of you who would love to abandon humanity and return to “monke”, but instead of “monke”, it’s return to “beave”.
14 – City of Gangsters
I have covered this one before quite extensively on the website, especially when the demo for it was first made available, a while back! Step into the gritty, strategic underworld of the 1920s with City of Gangsters, which puts players in the gritty underworld of 1920s prohibition-era America, and it’s one of the most intricate and tycoon-strategy games available to play in 2025, and it’s at a massive discount during the Epic Summer Sale 2025, at less than 10 dollars. This crime management sim challenges players to establish and grow a sprawling criminal empire with activities that range from setting up secret distilleries and speakeasies to managing intricate supply chains, bribing officials, and fighting rival gangsters, where every decision impacts your rise to power. This is the kind of game for players who are more interested in the economic aspect than the criminal one, and it’s pretty much a business sim with a Mafia mask on top of it. I would highly advise it, but have in mind that things take quite a while before they really get going; it’s a slow-burner kind of game.
13 – The Great War: Western Front
There’s no better real-time strategy (RTS) that focuses on the First World War and does a better job at it than The Great War: Western Front. Since its release in 2023, it stands as the definitive WW1 game, and it’s now available for sale and with a discount in the Epic Summer Sale 2025. It’s a truly fantastic title that does it’s best to replicate the brutal reality of the Western Front slog during WW1, and it manages to do this by blending grand-strategy theater command with intense, tactical real-time battles with persistent terrain damage, so that every battle taking place in that specific location has a story to tell, and it has a massive influence on the way your troops move and operate. Buildings and forests are obliterated, craters open, and trenches become unrecognizable bundles of sticks, stone, and flesh. Before every battle, you’ll dig intricate trench networks, deploy authentic World War 1 weaponry, and pre-plan artillery and your infantry battalions. One of the bigger theaters, you’ll manage resources and move troops around to break the stalemate in a conflict defined by inches. If you’re a player looking for a World War 1 game but are struggling to find a modern option, this is the game you’re looking for.
12 – Aliens: Dark Descent
Do you love the Alien Franchise and wish there were a strategy game? Well, your options might be slim, but at least you have the intense, squad-based real-time tactics, Aliens: Dark Descent, a must-have for fans of the iconic sci-fi horror franchise and strategic gameplay, currently on sale during the Epic Summer Sale 2025.
It’s one of the most immersive real-time strategy (RTS) games in this list, as the team behind it went above and beyond to make every little detail as true to the franchise as possible. The game puts players in command of Colonial Marines as they battle terrifying Xenomorph outbreaks on a desolate planet. Manage your squad’s health, sanity, and resources, strategically deploying defenses and utilizing each marine’s unique class abilities to survive relentless alien assaults. Blending deep tactical combat with a gripping original story, Aliens: Dark Descent delivers a nail-biting, atmospheric experience that truly captures the dread and action of the Alien universe.
11 – Suzerain Expanded Edition
One of Critical Moves’ most recommended titles, Suzerain Expanded Edition, is a game all about diving into the intricate world of politics and power. As President of Sordland, players will be forced to navigate a web of difficult decisions, from economic reforms and constitutional changes to international diplomacy and social policy. Every choice has profound and often unforeseen consequences, shaping your nation’s destiny and your own as well. It’s a mix between a nation builder, grand strategy, and something of a text-based adventure as well. It’s the perfect game for players who love to read and want to experience a choice-driven RPG with plenty of replayability. The Expanded Edition, including the Kingdom of Rizia DLC, offers even more depth and replayability for players craving a choice-driven RPG and a deep government management game.
