Top 7 Games Demos To Try On The Steam Wargames Fest

3 – Task Force Admiral

I have done plenty of coverage on Task Force Admiral, and it’s without a shadow of a doubt one of the games I’m most excited about. When I first played it, I wrote that it felt a lot like a next-generation wargame, and that’s because of its graphical quality (the game looks exquisite), the real-time battles of the Task Forces operating in the Pacific in 1942, simulated to it’s most minute detail, from the crews having to arrange the planes to be launched from the carriers, to the ballistics, damage and flight models, and not to mention the fact that you need to use historical tactics to make sure you’re successful, make Task Force Admiral one of the games I’m most excited about for 2025. If you haven’t played it demo, you need to give it a whirl, as it’s a delight.

2 – Strategos

I have recently interviewed the team behind Strategos and was rather impressed at what they’re trying to do with it. It’s a real-time strategy (RTS) game where players will take part in battles set in classical antiquity. So, a bit like the real-time strategy battles of something like Total War, but a lot more realistic and a lot more in-depth. The game’s main goal is to accurately simulate historical battles, with thousands of men rendered on screen, it’s up to you if you want to relieve a real-life historical battle or create your own, and the game is going to feature over 120 factions and well over 250 units, from hoplites to roman legionnaires, and everything in between.

The game won’t feature a grand strategy campaign, so temper your expectations and you won’t be disappointed with what’s on offer.

1 – Stronghold Crusader – Definitive Edition

One of the best real-time strategy(RTS) games of all time, Stronghold Crusader is getting a new definitive edition this summer, coming out on June 15th, 2025. This remastered version of the classic castle-building and siege warfare title allows players to relive the historical conflicts in the Middle East during the Crusades (in a fictionalized way). In Stronghold Crusader: Definitive Edition players will build their own towns and castles and fortresses, manage scarce resources on the desert, all to build an army and wage warfare. This definitive edition is not limiting itself to just rebuilding old stuff, but it’s adding a lot of new units (see video), and also a bunch of new AI opponents.
