What Demos Should I Try On The Steam Wargames Fest?
The Steam Wargames Fest is currently underway, presenting an excellent opportunity for strategy game enthusiasts to buy a couple of titles they might not usually look out for. I have compiled a list of the Top 5 Strategy Games to Get On The Steam Wargames Fest if you want to check it out. For those looking to sample before committing, numerous demos are available across different subgenres of strategy and wargames. Join me and let’s delve together into this article highlighting the 7 most noteworthy game demos featured in the Steam Wargames Fest, from a remastered version of a flash game, a first-person shooter, and some of the best upcoming real-time strategy titles to released in 2025.
7 – Warfare Legacy Collection
Warfare Legacy Collection just came out on April 28th, and it’s one of the more curious strategy games you can find at the Steam Wargames Fest. It looks like something out of Newgrounds, or Miniclip from back in the early 2000s (just looked into it, it’s a Flash game). Warfare Legacy Collection combines Warfare 1917 and Warfare 1944, remastered for modern systems. These are strategy games focusing on the tug-of-war battles of World War I and World War II, played in very casual, side-scrolling factions, where you spawn troops and watch them duke it out against the enemy. It’s not the most in-depth of experiences, but it’s a fun time if you want to shut your brain off and see big explosions for 30 minutes.
6 – Tank Squad
While Tank Squad failed to impress me when I gave it a go a couple of years ago, time has gone by, and the game’s starting to look interesting in 2025. But what is Tank Squad? I’m glad you asked! This is a World War 2 tactical combat game that puts players in command of a German tank crew during the Battle of Kursk. The game focuses on authenticity at the highest level, from commanding your armoured force on the battlefield, as well as repairing your vehicle on the depot, replenishing and managing supplies, and taking care of your crew. It’s an interesting concept if you’re looking to try your hand at some armoured combat.
5 – Over The Top: WWI
We don’t get enough World War I games. We never had. So, anytime I get an opportunity to get a glimpse of these rare beasts, I take it. Over the Top: WWI is a multiplayer-focused third-person shooter that’s going to try and immerse players in the brutal trench warfare of World War I. What’s most exciting about Over The Top: WWI is how the game is going to feature dynamic terrain, making sure that every map feels different, and cover can be created and eliminated throughout a single match, keeping everything a lot more unpredictable. If you’re interested in revising the fields of Flanders and Verdun no longer work for you, then Over the Top: WWI might be the game you’re looking for.
4 – Kriegsfront Tactics
Kriegsfront Tactics is a turn-based tactics game set in the 1970s fictional Southeast Asia conflict. Players command customizable squads of soldiers, utilizing stealth, tactical manoeuvres, and resource management to achieve objectives. The game features a dynamic campaign, procedurally generated missions, and permadeath, emphasizing strategic and tactical decision-making and adaptation. The game also has a very neat PS1-like graphical style which is very appealing!
Kriegsfront Tactics already appeared in my most anticipated games of 2025 due to its very interesting premise and potential.
