20 – Hearts of Iron IV
The critically acclaimed World War II grand-strategy game developed by Paradox Interactive, Hearts of Iron IV is at one of its best price points ever. If you’re unaware of it, the game’s set during the global conflict of the 1930s and 1940s, players can take control of any nation in the world—from major powers to smaller countries—and guide them to victory or defeat. The game has steadily been getting new DLCs and updates since it originally came out, and it’s probably one of the best Paradox titles and one of the best grand-strategy games you can get right now. 19 – Homeworld: Remastered Collection.
Homeworld 3 might have been a disappointment to long-term fans, but at least we always have Homeworld: Remastered Collection to go back. Visually stunning real-time strategy (RTS) game set in a vast expanse of space, where players command powerful fleets of starships in epic 3D battles. Featuring the fully remastered campaigns from both Homeworld and Homeworld 2, the game combines immersive storytelling with deep strategic gameplay. With its unique fully 3D space combat mechanics, Homeworld: Remastered Collection delivers an RTS experience unlike any other.
18 – Company of Heroes
Another permanent staple on every RTS list, ever, Company of Heroes is a real-time strategy (RTS) game that redefined World War II strategy gaming with its groundbreaking mechanics and expertly blending Hollywoodesque spectacle with an authentic combat experience focused on the 4Fs of combat (find, fix, flank, finish). Widely regarded as one of the highest-rated RTS games of all time, Company of Heroes introduced innovative features like cover systems, unit suppression, and tactical manoeuvrability that set a new standard for the genre. Even years after its release, it remains a must-play title for strategy enthusiasts. If you never gave its campaign a go, you really should. The end all be all of the RTS genres, yet to be surpassed a decade and a half later, is definitely one of the best World War 2 games of all time.
17 – Stronghold: Definitive Edition
Another childhood classic of mine, and of many of you, I am sure. Stronghold: Definitive Edition continues to be one of my all-time favourite games, alongside Stronghold Crusader (which is also getting a Definitive Edition!). I still play it every year without fail, and the Definitive Edition ensures that the Stronghold legacy lives on across all my systems for years to come. While it stays true to the original, the new campaign and its affordable sale price make it an easy decision for anyone who played the original Stronghold two decades ago. It’s a nostalgic return to the classic real-time strategy gameplay fans know and love, offering both new and familiar experiences. For less than 5 dollars, this is a must.
16 – The Great War: Western Front
The Great War: Western Front is one of the most interesting games that I have ever seen, to be honest. It’s a World War I strategy game that allows you to command World War I on the Western Front from a turn-based map while fighting battles in real time. These battles will become intense, meat-grinding slogs, but the unique combination of grand map strategy and tactical unit control on the ground sets it apart from, well, pretty much every other game, that and the fact that’s set in the First World War, a setting rarely explored by strategy games.
