My Top 25 Recommendations
I picked this list based on some of the games I think are worth a go in 2025. Some are old, some are new. I took into account their impact on the strategy gaming scene, how you, as a player, may be looking for new games you didn’t know about, and overall, just games I think are absolutely fantastic in their own way, offering very different experiences from one another, so I’m sure there’s something for you in here. Let me know what you think, and if you have any other suggestions, write them in the comments and let the other visitors know about the best deals you found!
25 – Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition

Age of Empires II is one of the most iconic and enduring titles in the real-time strategy (RTS) genre, and one of my favourite games of all time. First released in 1999 and still widely played today, this legendary RTS game continues to set the standard for strategic gameplay. In Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, players build and expand powerful civilizations, manage resources, and engage in epic battles against rival nations. With its timeless mechanics, updated (and beautiful) visuals, and massive community, it’s no surprise that Age of Empires II remains a top choice for RTS fans around the world. If you never played Age of Empires II, there has never been a better time to jump in. 25 years later, I’m still in love with this game.
24 – Starship Troopers: Terran Command

The game I called “one of the best RTS in the last decade” is on sale for cheapeasies, and it’s going to be hard to find a game that does the Starship Troopers franchises as much justice as this. Real-time strategy (RTS) game that delivers a thrilling tribute to the iconic sci-fi film franchise, combining cinematic presentation with deep tactical gameplay. Featuring a robust campaign packed with intense battles, diverse enemies and friendly units that stay true to the movies, Starship Troopers: Terran Command, is one of the best RTS you can play in 2025.
23 – They Are Billions
Age of Darkness: Final Stand didn’t live up to the hype, but They Are Billions is certainly here to fill that gap rather nicely. A post-apocalyptic real-time strategy (RTS) game where players must build, expand, and defend their colonies against relentless waves of zombie hordes. Set in a visually striking isometric world, the game combines base-building, resource management, and intense survival strategy in a unique and challenging campaign. Even on its easiest difficulty, They Are Billions offers a tough experience that’ll put you to the test. All it takes is for one zombie to get in, and suddenly, they are billions (see what I did there?).
22 – Total War: Warhammer III
I’m sure not even Creative Assembly could have imagined the massive success Total War: Warhammer would have become, and this trilogy of games culminated with the fantastic Total War: Warhammer III, a title that delivers epic real-time strategy battles with an engrossing and in-depth campaign, featuring some of the most unique factions the- usually historic- series has ever seen, each offering unique gameplay mechanics, goals, and battle styles. Even if you’re not a fan of the Warhammer universe, the game’s grand strategy depth, faction variety, and consistently engaging battles make it one of the most exciting and immersive entries in the Total War franchise.
21 – Sea Power: Naval Combat In The Missile Age

This Easter gamers are eating well! Even Sea Power: Naval Combat In The Missile Age, a game that came out in November of 2024 is on sale. Given, it’s just 10%, but if you were looking for a reason to pick up this astonishing title, this might be it. The game It’s pretty much on its merry way to becoming one of the best wargames ever made, and certainly one of the best naval-focused videogames ever put to code. The graphics are beautiful, the weapon and detection systems on ships, planes and submarines are sublimely modelled, the combat is intense and realistic, and the best part of it is: despite all this complexity, Sea Power is easy to just pick up, boot a scenario and play around.
