Strategy and Wargaming News – 29th November – Steam Autumn Sale, Homeworld 3 Is Dead, Armored Brigade 2 Out Now, Grand Tactician Series, And So Much More

Hello, dearest readers! How have you been? This week we have a massive news update. A lot has been going on, and with my focus on writing my list for the 50 Best Strategy Games for 2025, I haven’t been able to round the news up. I have split this article across several pages, so reading should be easier, and I can cash in on those sweet 50 cents of ad revenue.

Steam Autumn Sale Is Live

Another full circle around the sun, another Steam Sale! The Steam Autumn Sale is filled with fantastic deals and if you’re looking to stock up on games for the winter season, I have gathered a list of what I consider to be 25 really great strategy games, both from previous years, as well as with some surprising entries of games that came out in 2024 and are already on sale. Check it out! The sale Autumn Sale lasts until the 4th of December.

Grand Tactician Series Teased

Let’s start this weekly update with some shocking news. The team behind one of the best American Civil War videogames you can play at the moment has announced that they now have the capability of going full-time after dealing with some not-so-fun times during the last couple of years. They are going to be under the umbrella of a publisher, which is yet to be disclosed at the moment, but the team considers “like-minded” and “the right one” for them and Grand Tactician.

What surprised me the most was this passage: “We always wanted to make Grand Tactician a game series to portray multiple wars of the gunpowder and linear warfare era (17th to 19th Centuries)”. Hopefully, we’ll see Grand Tactician evolve to become a massive series!

Homeworld 3 Final Update Kills The Franchise

Homeworld’s 3 biggest update is also its last, and Gearbox is abandoning all support for the title. Watch the video, because I don’t want to discuss this stupid mess. What a waste, as one Youtube commenter wrote “All they needed to do was to take Homeworld 2, re-skin existing units, add some new units and weapons, and create a competing story with unique and challenging scenarios”. Instead, they made Company of Heroes 3 in space, and if anyone wants to play that, Sins of a Solar Empire 2 is a much better game. Fuck you, Gearbox.

Armored Brigade 2 Out Now At Slitherine And Matrix Store

Armored Brigade 2 is out right now, and you can buy it at the Slitherine Store for around $35,99| €36.89€. Having played the game, I enjoyed it a lot and I think moving to 3D was of particular importance in order to improve a lot of the worst aspects of the original Armored Brigade, like fields of vision, the perception of depth, situational awareness, faster decision making, and overall removing the janky feel it had, where you constantly had to pause to make decisions, while using a ruler to calculate fields of fire. While the game still needs some work to reach its full potential, I think it’s a massive step forward and I can’t see myself going back.

Hollywood Animal Announced

Hollywood Animal went from being totally outside of my radar before Joe told me about it in one of the Critical Moves Podcast episodes to “well that sounds interesting”, to be one of my most anticipated Strategy Games For 2025. Hollywood Animal is coming out on Steam’s Early Access on January 16th, 2025.
