1 – Kriegsfront Tactics
At the tail end of 2025, I wrote an in-depth article on Kriegsfront Tactics after playing its prologue, and it went on to become one of the most read preview articles I have ever released. Naturally, there’s some interest in this game. Kriegsfront Tactics is what I like to call a turn-based strategy game of the XCOM variety. It plays it safe and keeps the formula of the exceptional turn wrangler almost intact, while also adding a couple of twists of its own.
Players don’t command soldiers, but mechs, each with its own parts, weapons, and battlefield role. The setting is even weirder, because you’re fighting in the jungles of Southeast Asia in the 1970s. The jungles aren’t just set dressing either. Fighting in the thick forest gives you natural concealment and ambush locations; the temples and ruins provide players and enemies with hard cover, from buildings and walls to respite for a bit during firefights.
The PS1-inspired graphics are definitely a selling point, especially for those of us that grew up during the era. The low-poly art style looks fantastic in motion, and every model has sharp silhouettes, clean animations, and well-designed mech models. Even the lighting and effects are well done. I hope to see Kriegsfront sometime soon, either in 2026 or, and at the latest, in 2027. I think that out of all the games I have on my wishlist, this is by far the one I have the most faith in that it might succeed and become a major hit.
Conclusion
What about you, dear reader? What are the games on your Steam wishlist that you’re most looking forward to playing, and why? Do let me know!
