Total War: Warhammer III Gets Its Biggest Expansion Ever – Lords of The End Times

Creative Assembly and SEGA have officially unleashed the Lords of the End Times, marking the most ambitious expansion in the decade-long history of the Total War: Warhammer franchise. The expansion was released alongside the massive free Update 9.0, and this expansion reshapes a substantial part of the game, with apocalyptic new mechanics, new iconic figures from the Warhammer lore, and a massive quality-of-life overhaul. Better yet, acquiring any content from the pack grants players immediate access to the giant Immortal Empires sandbox map without requiring ownership of the base trilogy titles.

The Four Legendary Lords of the End Times

The expansion brings four of the universe’s most influential commanders into the fray, complete with unique faction mechanics and devastating rosters, as we have grown accustomed to:

Nagash: the Supreme Lord of Necromancy

The grand architect of necromancy comes with a singular goal: erasing life to ascend to godhood. His vision is a simple one: To erect necropolises to his own glory, amass a legion of undead warriors, and turn the world into the Land of the Dead. On the battlefield, Nagash commands armies assembled from across all undead rosters, combining Tomb Kings, Vampire Counts, and the Vampire Coast units. His playstyle is that of a spellcaster wielding the Lore of the Undeath in battle, and his wide roster capability makes him uniquely flexible in battle. Arguably, this also gives players buying Nagash the largest possible roster. He also has an additional 6 new units, 3 regiments of Renown, 2 Legendary Heroes, and, of course, Nagash as the Legendary Lord.

Glottkin – The Gigs of Nurgle

Representing Nurgle’s ultimate champion trio, the three Glott brothers act as a single, hulking unit in combat, blending massive physical might with foul sorcery. On the campaign map, the Glottkin sow Nurgle corruption to establish “Gardens of Corruption,” converting mortal settlements into fruitful plague hubs that grant unmatched access to elite daemonic Nurgle forces. Their roster is composed of Warriors of Chaos and Nurgle Daemons, and their already powerful options are supplemented by some new additions: Glottkin as the Legendary Lords, 4 new Legendary Heroes, 5 new units, and 3 Regiments of Renown.

Thanquol – The Grey Seer

The Leader of Clan Scruten of the Skaven, Thanquol, is raising secret armies from all of the available Skaven roster to strike from the shadows and bring the ultimate rat dominance into the World. The Grey Seer enters the campaign with his “Masterplans” mechanic, allowing players to orchestrate elaborate economic, magical, or military schemes that trigger game-changing events across rival territories. Like all factions, Thanquol also has a couple of new additions, including 1 Legendary Lord, 1 Legendary Mount, 1 Legendary Hero, 1 Lord, 5 new units, and 3 Regiments of Renown.

Boris Todbringer – Elector Count of Middenland

Boris Todbringer, Elector Count of Middenland, seeks to defend the Empire from destruction and slay his nemesis, the Beastlord Khazrak One-Eye. His unique campaign feature is the Great Temple of Ulric, on which Ulric Boris, by defeating his enemies, enhances its six sacred sanctuaries and performs great Rites to energise his armies even further. 1 Legendary Lord, 1 Legendary Hero, 1 Lord, 1 Hero, 6 new units, and 3 new Regiments of Renown amplify the power of his Empire roster.

Update 9.0: End-Game Scenarios and Technical Reworks

Alongside the major DLC, the update 9.0 introduces a dramatic shift to campaign pacing and late-game threats. The endgame for Immortal Campaigns was reworked, and there are now 3 scenarios:

The Chaos Invasion: Archaon has united the dark forces of Chaos to lay waste to the mortal realm. To break his relentless march and defeat the Everchosen, you must strike at the heart of his empire and dismantle his dark fortresses piece by piece.

The Vermintide: The Skaven under-empire erupts across the globe. Uncounted millions of ratmen pour from the subterranean depths in a world-spanning surge, forcing players to hold the line against an endlessly overwhelming tide.

Nagash Rises: The Great Necromancer seeks to claim ultimate divinity. Unravel Nagash’s dark schemes and launch a desperate assault on the Black Pyramid before he completes his ascension to godhood.

The new update also boosts map optimizations, and several faction reworks were deployed for the Vampire Counts, and legacy Legendary Lords received updated and modernized Victory Conditions. Archon the Everchosen also got a major rework as well.

Free-LC & Faction Updates: Neferata and Bretonnia

Even players who won’t be buying the DLC can enjoy the Free-to-Play content made available with the release of Lords of the End Times:

Neferata as Free Legendary Lord: The Queen of the Lahmian Sisterhood joins the roster as a free Legendary Lord. Operating from the Silver Pinnacle, Neferata utilizes espionage networks, seduction mechanics, and vampiric infiltration to subvert mortal realms from within alongside the broader Vampire Counts faction rework.

Bretonnia’s Tune-Up: While Creative Assembly has noted that a ground-up rework for Bretonnia remains on their active development pipeline for future patches, Update 9.0 delivers targeted adjustments to hold the chivalric kingdom strong. Knightly vows, AI recruitment logic, and unit balance tweaks ensure Bretonnia’s cavalry formations remain competitive against the newly unleashed apocalyptic threats.

Total War: WARHAMMER III – Lords of the End Times is available now across Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store, and each Lord costs $9.99.
