Strategy and Wargaming News – 31 May 2026 – Bolt Action Army Builder, Hooded Horse Sal, Heroes of Might & Magic: Olden Era Roadmap and Much More!

ZeroSpace RTS/RPG Hybrid Demo Is Now Available

June’s Steam Next Fest is coming on June 15 and lasts until June 22nd, meaning that some developers have already started to get ahead of the curve and set their demos free beforehand. A tactic that makes some sense, because when I browse the demo-bonanza festival, the most interesting tab is the one ranked by the number of wishlists. One such game is ZeroSpace, a traditional RTS/RPG that has Relic and Homeworld co-founder Aaron Kambeitz working on it. The premise is captivating, the game aims to deliver a main story campaign with 40 missions in total, 10 heroes to play around with the RPG mechanics, and 11 total factions. Having not played it (the demo just finished installing as I write this), I cannot vouch for the quality of its gameplay just yet, but from the trailer, the unit animations look so well done. And you know my old adage: if a strategy game has high-quality animations, that’s a telltale sign that the game is possibly very good. The game is set to release in Early Access on July 20th.

Falso Echo – Submarine Cryptographic Thriller

A submarine game inspired by Papers Please wasn’t on my bingo card of genre mix-ups for 2026, but this is the world we live in, I guess. Jokes aside, the premise for Falso Echo is, at least in theory, a very interesting one. Players operate the Obscura machine, decode messages, and decide which messages received can be considered true or false. Truth can take many forms, and it’s your job to find the one the regime wants to hear. The peculiar premise is accompanied by some of the best pixel art I have seen in recent years.

Town To City Reaches 1.0

The lovely and cozy city-builder Town To City just went gold, and it’s now out of Early Access. The 1.0 version of this Mediterranean-municipal-maker brings a new campaign map called Rocemarée, the ability to design various types of scenic routes, 11 new requests, new house designs, and late-game bourgeoisie mechanics like tourism and fancy decorations. The work isn’t yet finished, as Galaxy Drove will add more construction site decorations soon, and have a big modular houses update prepared for the Summer, and another, yet major update for Autumn, but details are not yet available.

Veterans: Napoleonic Wars Playtest Announced

I’m trying my luck with Playtests recently, and after the incredible first impressions I got from Theatre of War Rearmed, I was hopeful that I would be allowed into Veterans: Napoleonic Wars to give this one a go, and pen some first impressions of this Ultimate General RTS. While my invitation is yet to arrive, you can also put your own into the waiting list by going to their Steam Page and requesting access. If you have managed to play it, let me know your thoughts on it.
