Strategy and Wargaming News – 29 March 2026 – WDS Hits Steam, Sudden Strike 5 Dated, Dorf Kickstarter, and Much More

This week has been absolutely packed with announcements that will make any strategy fan’s heart race. We finally have a date for the return of one of the most iconic tactical series in gaming, a massive shift in strategy for one of the most respected wargame developers in the industry, and a Kickstarter for an RTS that looks like it jumped straight out of the golden age of the 90s.

D.O.R.F. Real-Time Strategic Conflict Kickstarter is Live

If you’ve been missing the “golden age” of RTS games like Command & Conquer, you need to look at D.O.R.F. Real-Time Strategic Conflict. The developers have officially launched their Kickstarter campaign to bring this gritty, old-school RTS to the finish line. With its unique 2.5D aesthetic and focus on base building and massive unit variety, DORF looks like a love letter to the 90s. The campaign is already gaining a lot of traction, and reached its goal of $85,000 dollars, so check out the rewards while they’re still available.

Sudden Strike 5 Release Date Confirmed

The wait is almost over for one of the most antecipated RTS of 2026. Kalypso Media and Kite Games have officially locked in the release date for Sudden Strike 5. This latest entry promises to return to the series’ roots with massive WWII tactical battles and a focus on high-stakes armored combat. I admit the game looks spectacular, and if the dev diaries are anything to go by, the amount of content (25 missions and 300 units), and dynamic campaigns are going to be highlights of SD5.

Bolt Action: Dev Diary 3 Keeps The Tabletop Soul Intact

The digital adaptation of the world’s most popular WWII tabletop game is moving along nicely. In the third Dev Diary for Bolt Action, the team took a deep dive into the “Order Die” system. For those who don’t play the tabletop version, this is the mechanic that determines turn order randomly, creating a chaotic and unpredictable battlefield. Seeing how they’ve translated this tension into a digital format is fascinating, and it looks like they are staying very true to the Warlord Games source material.

Dorfromantik: Medieval Biome Pack

The cozy hit Dorfromantik is getting a bit more rustic. The developers have teased a new “Medieval Biome Pack” currently in the works. This will introduce new tiles, structures, and visual themes that lean into the classic castle-and-village aesthetic, perfect for those looking to build a picturesque feudal landscape.
