The 12 Best Wargames To Buy During The Steam Spring Sale 2026

4 – Unity of Command 2

Considered by many to be the most accessible wargame of all time, Unity of Command 2 is a masterpiece in game design, user experience, and art style. UoC 2 is the kind of title that’s easily accessible, yet extremely hard to master. Players command the Western Allies during the Second World War, and it’s up to them to manage their logistics to make sure each division is fit to fight the good fight. Being an operational-level wargame, the focus is on large-scale movement at a theater level.

3 – Panzer Corps 2

If you want a traditional wargame in the vein of Unity of Command 2 but with a bit more bite and detail, then Panzer Corps 2 is the gold standard.

2 – Command: Modern Operations

What if I told you there’s a wargame out there that’s used by dozens of militaries around the world to simulate the complexity of air and naval combat in exquisite and overwhelming detail? Meet Command: Modern Operations, the kind of game that, to even start playing, you’ll need to at least have a surface-level understanding of how a real military operates. Dive into this one if you’re the kind of guy who knows what a GBU-53/B and an AIM-120D AMRAAM are. If that means nothing to you, your money will be better spent on the game at number one.

  1. I’ve got 8 out of the 12 games already (missing 1, 2 and 7 and 11; 2 on purpose as I don’t have time for the steep learning curve). That being said, if 11 (Combat Mission: Black Sea) is anything like the other Combat Mission games, stay away. I bought CM: Red Thunder during the sale and returned it after half an hour. The game’s graphics are horrible to the point that it is unplayable. I am sure there is risk of getting eye cancer. What I am not sure of is where they got the graphics they show on store page, but it looked nothing like that for me. I went instead for Mius Front, which looks much better.

    1. I feel thecsame. I have all of the Combat Mission games, and can never get them to look as good as the screen shots, even with all the graphic details maxed out.

      1. It’s just not a looker, but by far one of my favorites

  2. HQ WW2 is essentially a better version of Battle Academy (BA2), I wouldn’t recommend both except on price point. Excited HQ Cold War is out though only small launch discount.

Ugghhh… At least 9 of these, maybe 10 (unsure about Radio General), are set in WW2. Are video game studios aware that literally ANYTHING else in history has ever happened? Just like books, TV, movies… The WW2 fixation is just so painfully tired at this point.

    1. There are two RGs. One is Vietnam and one WW2. But I think the one recommended here is the WW2 one 😆

      1. Yeah, there the Vietnam Version is called Radio Commander, available both to Mobile and PC via Steam. This Radio General Is not familiar to me though the mechanics seems to share the same concept.

      2. Radio General is better imo

    2. I enjoy ww2, so I’m quite happy with this, but I agree that we need more variety
