Steam Medieval Festival Sale Recommendations

The Best Medieval Games To Buy Right Now

I fancy myself as quite the expert when it comes to Medieval games, mainly helped by the fact that I myself used to be a historian who focused a lot on the Medieval era. Fortunately, there are thousands and thousands like me out there, and Steam is currently running a Medieval Festival with some pretty awesome medieval-theme games on sale.

I have put together a quick recommendation list on some of the games I think you should pick up!

The Steam Medieval Festival is running until December 18th, the day when the Steam Winter Sale is supposed to begin, so most of my recommendations will most likely still be valid after that date! Let’s dive straight into them!

5 – Stronghold: Definitive Edition

Stronghold: Definitive Edition is right up with Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition when it comes to high-quality, much-needed remakes of 90s and early 2000s RTS classics. Stronghold: Definitive Edition is better in literally every way, shape, or form when compared to the original. The gameplay is still the same, but the graphics have been widely improved; there is a lot more single-player content, especially a new, challenging single-player campaign that’s very much worth playing through. With the game costing just 5 dollars during the Steam Medieval Sale, this is an absolute must-get for players looking to experience one of the best medieval RTS games of all time.

4 – Bad North: Jotunn Edition

Do you remember that time, during the 2010s, when all strategy game developers thought players wanted was a streamlined version of every mechanic imaginable? Well, they were wrong, and most games failed. However, some good games fully embraced this minimalistic approach to strategy and became beloved by players, one of which is Bad North: Jotunn Edition. Released in 2018 and currently on sale for $2.99, Bad North is a real-time strategy game with a rogue-lite meta-layer where players must defend their small island from enemy Vikings with a maximum number of just 4 units, each with its own strengths, weaknesses, and specific usages. Each mission plays out in a couple of minutes, and it’s a perfect game for quick gaming sessions. It’s a comfort food game, and I have played it for years. Read my whole first impressions here.
