Ubisoft surprised tactical strategy fans at Gamescom Opening Night Live by officially unveiling Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics. Marking the franchise’s first dedicated single-player campaign since 2008’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2, the title shifts the series into a deep, turn-based strategy experience while keeping the high-stakes tactical DNA of the franchise intact.
Development is being led by Ubisoft Paris, the studio behind the Mario + Rabbids strategy series and recent Ghost Recon titles, and is scheduled to launch in 2027 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
Here is everything confirmed about Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Tactics, along with a complete breakdown of every feature revealed so far.
Story & Setting: Rebuilding Team Rainbow
Rainbow Six Tactics takes place during the narrative timeline of Rainbow Six Siege, specifically set amidst the collapse and operational restructuring of Team Rainbow between Siege’s 10th and 11th years. Players step into the shoes of Paul “Six” Bishop, a direct nod to the protagonist of Rainbow Six Vegas 2, who takes on the role of Commander to rebuild and lead the elite counter-terrorism unit against a rising global threat. The narrative campaign will feature over 90 minutes of fully voiced cutscenes, bridging the gap between field deployments and strategic base operations.
Highlighted Features Revealed So Far
1. Modern Breach Planning

In a direct homage to the classic pre-mission planning phase of 1998’s original Rainbow Six, the Breach feature lets players set up synchronized assaults before dropping back into turn-based combat.
- Players can assign up to four Operators to multiple entry points (doors, windows, or soft walls).
- You can queue up to 12 distinct synchronized decisions—such as flashing rooms, planting charge explosives, and targeting high-threat enemies—before executing the strike in a seamless, cinematic sequence.
2. Fully Destructible Environments
Translating Siege’s signature environmental destruction into turn-based gameplay, dynamic destruction replaces static cover mechanics.
- Players can breach walls, blow through floors, and shatter barricades to generate custom lines of sight or flank entrenched targets.
- Cover is fully destructible, and enemies can tear through walls to expose your squad, ensuring no position stays safe forever.
3. Iconic Roster & Squad Customization

15 Siege Operators: The game features 15 familiar fan-favorite characters from Rainbow Six Siege, including Operators like Sledge and Ash.
Specialized Skill Trees: Every Operator has a unique progression tree, specialized gear, and distinct tactical gadgets.
4-Operator Squads: You deploy teams of four per mission, allowing for varied squad synergies based on mission parameters.
4. Optional Permadeath & Ironman Mode
For hardcore strategy veterans, Tactics includes toggleable hardcore parameters:
- Permadeath: Operators who suffer critical injuries in combat can be permanently killed or rendered unavailable for the remainder of the campaign.
- Ironman Mode: Restricts manual saving to force players to live with tactical mistakes and adapt squad compositions on the fly.
- Permadeath can be enabled across any difficulty setting, giving players flexibility in how high they want the stakes to be.
5. Reconnaissance & Dynamic Fog-of-War
To mirror the tension of clearing dark or unfamiliar rooms, the game features a dynamic fog-of-war system.
- Drone Scouting: Deploying recon drones during the prep turn is essential for spotting hidden threats, enemy traps, and objective layouts before breaching.
6. HQ Management & Base Upgrades

Between field deployments, players return to Rainbow Headquarters.
- Manage intelligence briefings, assign squad deployments, upgrade base departments, and train Operators to unlock new capabilities ahead of upcoming operations.
7. Diverse Missions & Global Campaign Scope

47 Handcrafted Maps: Spread across more than 45 global locations, ranging from urban city centers and airports to remote industrial warehouses and offshore platforms.
Varied Mission Types: Objectives include classic tactical scenarios such as Hostage Rescue, Bomb Disposal, and Target Elimination.
8. Pure Single-Player Focus (No Microtransactions)
Ubisoft confirmed that Rainbow Six Tactics is built purely as a premium, single-player offline experience. The game will feature no in-game shop, no battle passes, and zero microtransactions.
