7 – Frontline Logistics: Isarian Warfare
You’ve probably read somewhere online the cringe aphorism “Amateurs talk strategy. Professionals talk logistics”. I’m actually surprised it took game developers this long to come up with the concept of Frontline Logistics: Isarian Warfare, given the fact that every wargame under the sun is concerned with the logistics aspect of warfare.
Well, Frontline Logistics is here to take that preoccupation and make it the forefront of the game. Players will essentially act as a Supply officer (but not only), manage a logistic outpost, make sure soldiers have the necessary equipment (even when there’s little, you’d better get scavenging, you cannot just wait for them to arrive from the rear), food, and medical care. You’ll also then assign missions and have them carried out by the very own soldiers you took care of. You’ll also be making sure the men fighting have enough material available to get the job done, even while on the frontlines. The game is currently scheduled for release in Q1 2026.
6 – Extinction Day
What if, instead of always having to be the hero, swooping in to save the day, you could be a force for destruction, with the ultimate goal of destroying all of humanity? Well, that’s the premise for Extinction Day, a strategy and simulation game that casts the player as the orchestrator of the apocalypse. Developed by the creators of Bio Inc., a 2018 entry where the player could either develop a deadly disease or save humanity from it, the team is now taking that concept to a planetary level. Beware, doom-bringers, for humans are industrious creatures, and they’ll fight back with everything they have. Extinction Day is currently scheduled for an Early Access release on Steam in Q1 2026.
5 – Strategos
Last time I played Strategos, an upcoming real-time tactics wargame set in classical antiquity, I found it a bit too fast for my liking, and for a game that’s aiming to be a deep simulation of large-scale historical battles. I’m currently giving it a go to see how much it has changed, because it recently earned a spot on my Top 10 Wargames to Look Forward To. While Strategos is often said to be similar to Total War, the fact is that it really isn’t, as it lacks a grand-strategy element altogether, opting to focus instead on the complexities of ancient warfare, such as unit composition and morale, routing mechanics, terrain, and all the good things. The game is also bringing a massive repertoire of historical factions (120) and units (over 250). The game is being developed by Strategos Games and published by MicroProse, with a planned release date sometime in 2025.
