Another week, another round of the best strategy gaming news you can find online. We have a new Hearts of Iron 4 DLC, an up-and-coming Stellaris competitor, we learn that Battle of Britain is nearly here, Broken Arrow is getting an open beta and MicroProse is publishing a game very similar to Red Alert 2.

Hearts of Iron 4 New DLC
Hearts of Iron IV announced the SEO unfriendly Götterdämmerung expansion. The more astute of you might be suspecting that this is Germany-related, and you would be right. This new DLC will revamp the German, Austrian Hungarian and Belgian focus trees. Build special projects and create advanced weaponry. There is also a new special kind of operation called Raids. The AI competency in its offensive capabilities is also getting a rework.
Broken Arrow Open Beta
My most anticipated title of 2024 which got postponed to 2025 will run an Open Beta for the multiplayer, starting November 12th. If you’ve been living under a rock, Broken Arrow is a real-time strategy title in the vein of Eugen System’s “wargame” series, with the added benefit of slowing things down, bringing infantry into a bigger focus and, consequently, making urban warfare the centre of the show. Oh, and it also takes the formula to the present, day.
Battlefall: State of Conflict Announced
Microprose keeps pilling up new titles under its belt. The real-time strategy, Battlefall: State of Conflict is the newest addition. This is said to be a “high-octane (…) game” where the factions battle across the ruins of Earth. This is all fine and dandy, but what I see is Red Alert 2, and I’m down for that. I just hope they rework the explosion effects because those look absolutely out of place. There’s a demo available if you want to give it a try.
Beyond Astra Is a Stellaris Competitor
This one bumped into me while I was perusing the internet for news. Being developed by Nebule Games, Beyond Astra is a real-time 4X sci-fi strategy game very much in the vein of Stellaris. This one also has a demo available on Steam.
Scramble: Battle of Britain Entering Early Access
A sneaky email from Slitherine is letting me know (and consequently, all of you), that the innovative Scramble: Battle of Britain will be released in Early Access on October 29th. This might seem a bit odd for a company like Slitherine, but they explain their decision with the fact that Scramble: Battle of Britain “introduces a highly innovative gameplay system, and Slitherine believes that it will benefit massively from player feedback”. Realpolitiks 3: Earth and Beyond Announced
I must confess to having never booted up a Realpolitiks game. There’s no particular reason for this, I just never got around to playing them, so I have no idea if they’re good or not, but if this grand strategy is going into their third iteration, it has to mean something. The big deal this time around with Real Politiks 3 is that the game isn’t limited to the Earth, and you can, in fact, expand your nation all across the Solar System. This sounds like a ridiculous and interesting premise, so let’s see how this one turns out.
