Here’s What Happened At Home Of Wargamers 2026

The biggest digital wargaming event of 2026 just wrapped up, so here’s a catch-up on everything you need to know! This is going to be on the shorter side, since I need to go to bed after I’m done writing this. I’m going over the major news and the smaller, more interesting bits I might cover in my weekly newsletter that goes out on Sunday.

Strategic Command: Korea Announced

The famous grand-strategy series of wargames from Strategic Command has already covered World War 2, World War 1 and the American Civil War. Now it’s going to cover Korea, too! I know how you wargamers get all giddy when this forgotten conflict gets brought up, so hopefully Strategic Command: Korea is going to make you all a bit less miserable.

The game will be played at the regimental level, with turns lasting two days, on a map of nearly 40,000 hexes, each representing 7km. The game is going to feature the grand campaigns, four mini ones, and new unit types like self-propelled artillery, helicopters, and forward Air Control units.

Armored Brigade II: Rhine Shield New DLC

One of the best and most realistic wargames you can play in 2026 is about to get a lot bigger and a lot better, as the forces of France, Belgium, and the Netherlands are about to join Armored Brigade II on its up-and-coming DLC called Rhine Shield. Each nation is going to get an expanded roster of about 400 new ground units and aircraft, and a new 30km by 30km map that you can splice into bits and play on it. The DLC will also feature 3 new linear campaigns and 6 standalone missions.

New Decisive Campaigns: Twilight In The East Title

Strategic Command isn’t the only returning series! Decisive Campaigns is also coming back with a new entry called Twilight In The East. This is the first installment in the series, and it will be going to the Eastern Front again, covering an array of battles from Operation Barbarossa in 1941. Combat and maneuvering will happen at the battalion level, with 1km per hex as a scale, and each day being split into 4 turns. Of course, the game will feature logistics, a better user interface, a scenario designer, and new unit graphics. A new Break Contact Fire rule was introduced for units to disengage from unfavorable odds, a new Fire Brigade Mode that lets units mutually support each other by moving into a new hex with friendly defenders during an enemy turn, and a Blind Attack, giving players the capacity to attack a hex without having to forcefully spot enemies first.

Combat Mission: Cold War – Battle Pack Shadow Dropped

Fans of the Combat Mission franchise didn’t get a look at Combat Mission 3, but at least they got an immediate bonus with a surprise drop of a brand-new Battle Pack containing 16 new standalone scenarios and a new campaign.

Flashpoint Campaigns: Lowland Lions Gets A Surprise Release

Flashpoint Campaigns: Lowland Lions also got dropped on us out of nowhere, and this is a beefy DLC for just $14.99. Players will lead the Dutch I Corps through a 3-scenario campaign covering the opening hours of the war and continue the fight by taking over the Belgian forces in ga 4 scenario campaign as they hold off the Soviet assault. The third campaign shifts to West German “stay-behind” units operating behind enemy lines.

Commander: Europe at War New Details

Commander: Europe At War, the classic that’s being rebuilt for a modern audience, is going to enter beta soon, and most of the presentation has been centered around the original 2D/isometric presentation being replaced by a fully rendered 3D engine, with more detailed units and a smoother experience when you’re playing and zooming around. A lot of work has been done to remove the original hard-coded nature of some critical aspects, and this will allow nations to dynamically react to what happens during the game.

Command: Modern Operations and Nuclear War Simulator

Command: Modern Operations announced the launch of Real-Time Multiplayer on October 6th, so you’ll be able to battle your meat wargamers, and not just silicon ones. Nuclear War Simulator went deep into the new scenarios, missile defense, and economics.
