Game of Thrones: War for Westeros
If you’ve been waiting for a true Battle for Middle-earth successor set in the brutal realm of A Song of Ice and Fire, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is coming for your free time. Developed by PlaySide Studios, this classic RTS drops you into high-stakes base building, territory expansion, and massive real-time clashes across the Seven Kingdoms. The game promises to let players command House Stark’s swift cavalry, bribe their way to victory with House Lannister’s gold, rain fire from above with House Targaryen’s dragons, and even command the White Walkers. In War for Westeros, each faction brings distinct mechanics, hero commanders, and iconic units to the battlefield. The community reaction to the game has been rather mixed, but I’m hopeful this will be a great time, mainly because I really want a Battle for Middle-earth successor, and the game feels just like it. Let me conquer the Iron Throne!
Bolt Action
Bringing the world’s most famous WWII tabletop wargame directly to PC, Bolt Action will deliver deep, turn-based tactical warfare packed with intense squad-level grit. Warhammer 40.000: Dawn of War IV
The legendary sci-fi RTS series is finally making its triumphant return, taking players back to the war-torn planet Kronus for the ultimate battle of galactic supremacy. Developed by King Art Games (worked on Iron Harvest), Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV drops the unwanted gimmicks of previous titles to focus on classic base-building, tactical cover dynamics, and huge battles. Command four massively distinct factions at launch, including Space Marines, Orks, Necrons, and the debut of the Adeptus Mechanicus, across branching campaigns and the fan-favorite Last Stand co-op mode. With orbital bombardments, massive squad customization, and visceral grimdark carnage, this is the true Dawn of War sequel that we have all been wishing for. Add on top of all that a massive single-player campaign that goes over all factions, and we RTS fans cannot stop winning in 2026.
Afterworld
It’s nice to see Paradox getting their hands into something new for a change. Forget typical post-apocalyptic grimness and step into the mesmerizing, natural surrealism of Afterworld, a unique game that challenges you to rebuild civilization with nature, not against it. You must lead a small community to scavenge, cultivate, and research technologies, balancing resource consumption and fighting or allying yourself with other factions to rebuild from the ashes. The whole post-apocalyptic thing is here, including the search for ancient technologies that can rewrite the rules of the game. While I’m a fan of Paradox’s historical titles, and the last post-apocalyptic game I have truly enjoyed was Fallout: New Vegas, I’m very curious to see if Afterworld is going to deliver on its premise, and how Paradox will improve upon it in the months after its release with new mechanics and DLC.
Heroes of Might & Magic III: Remake
Ubisoft is officially taking us back to Erathia with a ground-up reimagining of arguably the greatest turn-based strategy game ever created. Rebuilt in the modern Snowdrop engine with full 4K visuals, dynamic lighting, and a freely controllable 3D camera, Heroes of Might & Magic III: Remake preserves the masterclass gameplay that defined a generation while throwing modern production values at every battle. You’ll build up iconic faction castles, manage resource pipelines across sprawling adventure maps, and command vast armies of mythical creatures on classic hexagonal battlefields. With the return of legendary campaigns, full expansion content, and seamless multiplayer, it’s an irresistible nostalgia trap for fans of Heroes.
