1 – Cyber Knights: Flashpoint

At the number one spot, I’m going to place a game that I have been playing lately that has got to be the most complete turn-based game that you can play in 2026, especially if you’re a fan of cyberpunk settings. Cyber Knights: Flashpoint XCOM mixed with Cyberpunk 2077, and it’s the magnum opus of TreseBrothers (previously known for their 2015 Templar Battleforce), and has been in Steam’s Early Access program since 2022, and saw its 1.0 release in June, 2025. The game is now fast approaching its #100 update! The game is built around a gang of cyberpunk mercenaries undertaking all sorts of daring heists. So, what makes it so special? Well, it’s the sheer amount of options the game gives players and its emergent storytelling. Squad members evolve and interact with the world, and the game’s “casting director” will track each individual character and create stories for them.
Most of the games on this list will have you picking from a limited pool of weapons and abilities to keep things concise and tidy, but in Cyber Knights: Flashpoints, each one of your units is a Swiss knife of skills that affect all orders of things, like making no sound when moving, hacking security devices, energy barriers, bullet ricochets off walls, body timers, etc. The point is, there are a lot of skills to pick from and build your mercs around.
We live in a time where we’re spoiled for choices when it comes to picking the best sci-fi turn-based strategy games to play, and if you were to ask me, I would gladly recommend Cyber Knights: Flashpoint to anyone looking for a challenge, depth, and nearly limitless replayability. Despite being out of Early Access, the game is still being actively worked on, and its vibrant and dystopian cyberpunk setting is just the icing on top of a very tasty cake. A massive thumbs up and a very strong recommendation to this one.
