The Top 10 “Murican” Games to Celebrate the American Semiquincentennial

5 – Freedom Fighters

Why does Freedom Fighters beat the far superior, historically based Call of Duty? Because it’s pure, unabashed patriotism is so top-notch that it demands a spot in the top five. No game since has perfectly captured that Red Dawn “Wolverines!” feel. You’re fighting a frightening, plausible Soviet Empire modeled right out of our 1980s fears, not the ridiculous North Korean armies found in the “Temu versions” of freedom-fighting games that are too scared to use China as a formidable adversary.

4 – Medal of Honor: Allied Assault

Remember Saving Private Ryan? As a kid, Medal of Honor literally dropped me right into that movie. Nothing inspired patriotism more in my teenage mind than when this title was released alongside that masterpiece of a film. Call of Duty is technically better, but it didn’t deliver that jaw-dropping initial feeling that this game did when it first came out.

3 – Brothers in Arms: Road To Hill 30

Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 secures a top-three spot over Medal of Honor and Call of Duty because it is rooted in the history of an actual platoon, making it far superior. By forcing you to use squad commands to suppress enemy fire, you must employ real infantry tactics rather than playing as a superhero running around with a Thompson. It’s so realistic that it didn’t sell quite as well to the instant-gratification audience, but the music and storyline are pure patriotism.

2 – Wargame Design Studio – American Revolutionary War

I know WDS – American Revolutionary War doesn’t have the AAA flair of most titles on this list, but the uniforms, the order of battle, and the sound design shoot it straight to the top of any patriot’s must-buy list. Interviewing the game designer, I was able to hear firsthand how much time he spent crafting every single map and battle engagement to mirror real history. As for the atmosphere? Well, if the music wasn’t authentic and filled with patriotic fury, I wouldn’t even consider it. It’s not just one good patriotic tune; it’s many. It’s easily enough to make me want to pull my flag out of the closet.
