1 – Holdfast: Nations at War
A little over a year ago, this wasn’t even an American Revolutionary War game. But thanks to the good graces of the developers, they released an update that transformed this into the number-one patriotic game ever made. Buy the Washington’s Colonials DLC, and you even get George Washington’s head and a pure “Murican” banjo. Seriously, nothing revs up a celebration for 250 years of awesome “Muricanism” quite like blasting redcoats while the game’s amazing music blares in Holdfast: Nations at War. The atmosphere and combat might not be 100% historically correct, but it 100% gives me childhood flashbacks of the Hulkster waving the American flag while “Real American” plays. If you don’t own this game and play it on the Fourth of July, you need to look in the mirror and ask yourself: “Am I really an American?”
Final Thoughts
As a dude in his early 40s who was raised on the absolute best of Cold War propaganda, my experience of what makes a game “patriotic” might differ from yours. If you’re older than me, and you grew up around actual WWII veterans and watched Hogan’s Heroes as a kid, you most likely have a different perception compared to me growing up watching Hulk Hogan. So, through our mutual imaginations, take this list in that context. This ain’t the top American game list; it’s the top Murican game list—”Murican” meaning we are far too passionately patriotic to take the time to properly pronounce “American.”
Have some fun, guys, and enjoy your Fourth of July!
