1 – Task Force Admiral
Without a shadow of a doubt, the wargame I’m currently most excited about is Task Force Admiral – Vol. 1: American Carrier Battles, a soon-to-be real-time, 3D command simulation wargame that puts the player in the role of an American carrier task force admiral during the pivotal naval battles of the Pacific War in 1942. Having played it quite a lot before, not only did it manage to match my expectations, but it also completely blew them out of the water, and I currently look at it as a next-generation wargame. Something that’s going to be so transformational, mixing up high-fidelity simulation, focusing on the historical subject of carrier vs carrier-vs-carrier duels of the early Pacific War, and still bringing this level of production to the table is unheard of and unseened in the wargaming sphere, and the result of a massive labor of love.
Playing it was so easy too, and as the commander player spend their time dispatching scouting missions to locate the Japanese Combined Fleet, coordinating air-sea strikes, and managing the movement and defense of their carrier group, and while they do not micromanage individual planes, the game lets them take control of one and take them for a combat joyride too, with flight physics included.
If you’re interested in World War 2, especially in the Pacific theatre of the war, Task Force Admiral is a no-brainer to put on your wishlist!
The Bright Future of Wargames In 2025 And 2026
The new generation of wargames, led by titles such as Task Force Admiral and Flashpoint Campaigns: Cold War, demonstrates a powerful commitment to both historical authenticity and deep, engaging gameplay, and dispels the idea that the genre is somewhat stale. Quite the opposite, it has never been so dynamic and alive, with great titles that have been released in 2025 already, some that are still to be released, and some to look forward to in 2026.
