Strategy Games and Wargames News – 2nd November – Sea Power, Harpoon 97, Age of Empires 2 Classical Greece and More

Metal Slug Tactics Gameplay Preview

From the look of this gameplay, I don’t think Metal Slug Tactics is going to redefine the genre, but it doesn’t need to, because the turn-based mechanics look solid. Add to that some roguelike elements and the amazing pixelated art style the Metal Slug series was known for way back when, and Metal Slug Tactics is looking promising. I’ll save my final judgment for when I put my hands on it, but I’m somewhat excited.

Victoria 3: Pivot of Empire

Paradox Interactive might be having a rough year, but at least they haven’t given up on Victoria 3 yet. Their latest DLC is set to come out on the 21st of November 2024, and its main focus is going to be British-controlled India. The Pivot of Empire DLC focuses on the societal and political evolution of India during the 19th and early 20th centuries. This DLC also contains new events, new mechanics, new characters, and new buildings.

Citadelum

Citadelum came out on the 17th of October and it’s sitting at a very respectable 82% positive rating on Steam. This is very much a classic city-builder similar to the Impression/ Sierra games of yore. I won’t be reviewing it, because I currently don’t have the time, but I’m just letting you know of its existence!

Sherman Commander : Gameplay Trailer and Demo

I’m sorry to say that I was expecting Sherman Commander to be a bit more… cooked (no pun intended!). The team recently announced that its demo is coming soon, but by looking at its gameplay, it looks off in so many aspects: units move awkwardly, graphics look bland and overly saturated, the unit’s movement is floaty, and the responsiveness of the tank is way too sharp for what it should be. Hopefully, they’ll get this stuff sorted out before releasing the demo.

Distant Worlds 2: Return of Shakturi

If you need a quick description of what Distant Worlds 2 is, I’ll put it like this: Distant Worlds 2 is Stellaris but for people without ADHD. This new DLC brings the Shakturi, a supernatural alien faction who hails from another galaxy, and they’ll act as a sort of deadly nemesis for powerful, late-game empires. A ton of other mechanics related to the Shakturi are also introduced, like the ability to control space creatures, mega ships and planet destroyers. The Shakturi are also capable of waging biowarfare and using psychic abilities.
