Strategy Games and Wargames News – 2nd November – Sea Power, Harpoon 97, Age of Empires 2 Classical Greece and More

Hello, everyone! This week’s highlights include the exciting Roadmap for the upcoming Sea Power, a naval strategy game that challenges players to dominate the seas, the announcement of the return of Harpoon 97 by Microprose and fans of historical real-time-strategy games will also be thrilled to explore new content for Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition, featuring the rich tapestry of Classical Greece. This and so much more in this week’s Strategy Games and Wargames News!

Sea Power: Naval Combat In The Missile Age Out Soon and Roadmap

Just in case you haven’t checked out my assessment of Sea Power: Naval Combat In The Missile Age you should give it a read.

The game’s coming out to Steam’s Early Access on the 12th of November, and while the build might be somewhat barebones in terms of content for some people, the team has announced the roadmap. Lined up is a Dynamic Campaign set to be out in the second quarter of 2025, with more units of all types, a tutorial, new mechanics, an improved camera, more historical scenarios and even future DLC. This is exciting stuff for a game that has a lot of promise. I’m always rooting for smaller studios that attempt to do something bigger ones are afraid of.

Harpoon 97

Beloved revived publisher Microprose recently announced they’re bringing back Harpoon Classic ’97. Set across four global theatres of war and with over 250 scenarios, including 50 new missions, even those old geezers amongst yourselves will have something new to try out! The interface was redesigned and the visuals were improved a bit.

Terminator: Dark Fate- Defiance We Are Legion DLC

Terminator: Dark Fate- Defiance is a criminally underrated real-time-strategy game released by Slitherine earlier this year. I kid you not when I say the mechanics of this game are so realistic and the damage models are so amazing that it’s a shame it isn’t being adapted into something less sci-fi (pretty sure I have talked about this before, but I don’t remember where).

The We Are Legion DLC will put you in charge of… well the Legion, as you go on a rampage to destroy human settlements, capture survivors and make sure the machines emerge victorious in this new campaign. Alongside this new set of missions also come new mechanics like the possibility to customize your silicon brain army.

Critical Moves Podcast Releases Its First Episode

Me and boys have officially released the first episode of our strategy gaming podcast called Critical Moves! If you haven’t checked it out yet, maybe give it a listen, you might enjoy it! If you don’t, please let us know why and how we can improve on it!

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition – Chronicles Battle for Greece

It seems that the Roman DLC released a while back really paid off because Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is getting a new antiquity-based expansion called Chronicles: Battle for Greece.

This new DLC will add 3 new civilizations: The Athenians, Spartans and the Achaemenids; new graphical models for 55 new land units, 19 new naval ones and 85 new buildings. You’ll also be able to play a 21-scenario campaign where you can experience the battles of Marathon, Thermopylae and Salamis. Forgotten Empires, the team behind this DLC is pulling all the stops.
