The Top Upcoming Strategy Games In 2024

As 2024 unfolds, the gaming world is brimming with excitement as developers gear up to release some of the most anticipated titles of the year. With a mix of innovative new IPs and long-awaited sequels, the latter half of 2024 promises to deliver unforgettable experiences across all platforms. Whether you’re a fan of action RTS, turn-based, city-builders, God games, or traditional wargames, there’s something on the horizon for everyone. In this article, we’ll dive into the most eagerly awaited games still set to launch this year, exploring what makes them must-plays and why they’re generating so much buzz among gamers worldwide.

20 – Gilded Destiny

I’ve seen promos about Gilded Destiny hanging around YouTube, but for some reason, I rarely read or hear about the game, and it’s coming out in 2024. Gilded Destiny is a grand strategy game that aims to take a dig at Victoria 3 and is set during the transformative era of the Industrial Revolution. This grand simulation will have you experiencing the societal transformation, industrialization, and economic and warfare changes of the 19th century. It’s a hex-based game, and the main map has over 1 million hexagons, each one expertly drawn to represent its specific location on Earth.

While I love the idea of the game, I need to see how the warfare aspect of it is going to play out, in-depth, before shifting out my pre-judgment on it.

19- Beyond These Stars

In Beyond These Stars, your society is the traveling companion of a space-faring whale. You’ll be building cities on the back of the animal while it traverses across the space. The usual challenges occur: you’ll need to grow your city and keep your inhabitants happy, explore the terrain and look for new resources, and establish a balanced economy while keeping an eye on the creature whose back serves as your homeland. As it travels through space you’ll meet new civilizations and face new challenges that an earth-bound city builder won’t be able to offer.

It’s an interesting premise, and hopefully, the universe-fairing mechanics are enough to keep me engaged.

18 – Memoriapolis

City-management title, Memoriapolis is set to arrive on the 29th of August. As leader of your city, you’ll be tasked with leading it through the ages, across a span of over 2,500 years, from Antiquity to the Age of Enlightenment. Each “Age” is set to introduce new mechanics, and with them, new challenges for you to tackle. You’ll be managing resources, facing historical events, and turning your city capital into a world wonder.

17 – Age of Mithology: Retold

Age of Mythology is one of my favorite games of all time, a childhood darling that I boot up, at least once a year, to play a couple of missions and listen to what’s one of the best gaming soundtracks ever recorded (tanananam, tam, tananam!). It disheartened me to read some of the Steam comments about poor performance, but other than that, the community reception of those who took part in the closed betas is very positive.

Age of Mythology: Retold comes out on September 4th and will cost $29.99 | 29,99€ | £22.49.

  1. Fronstpunk is my favorite genre of misspelling

  2. […] One of the games I’m most excited about, Sea Power: Naval Combat in the Missile Age is the brainchild of the lead designer of the excellent Cold Waters, and will be out in November. In Sea Power, you’ll take over the control of NATO and Warsaw Pact naval and air weaponry, and duke it out in the open seas. […]
