Another great week for people who enjoy history and strategy games! The Home of Wargamers was amazing and a lot of exciting new projects were announced. Microprose announced Empire Eternal. Crusader Kings 3 gets a massive new DLC, and Ubisoft is finally having its arm twisted enough that it pulled Assassin’s Creed Shadows from sale. There’s just something so satisfying in watching agenda-peddling companies crash and burn.
I would love for Strategy and Wargaming to go ad-free, and if you would like to support me with that, you can subscribe to my Patreon for a measly 3 dollars a month, or buy me a coffee for a dollar or a couple if you’re feeling generous. If you can’t, no worries, Strategy and Wargaming will always be free!
Micropose Announces Empire Eternal
The disappearance of Empire Earth- a beloved franchise from my years as a pre-teen- and the lack of people willing to pick up the mantle always left me a bit sad. It looks like things are about to change, with the announcement of Empire Eternal, a throughout-the-ages-RTS by Microprose and EPO Games.
Crusader Kings 3 Roads to Power Out Now
Crusader Kings 3 major expansion Roads to Power is out now. There’s a lot of new stuff, so I’ll review the most important ones: a new administrative government inspired by the Byzantine Empire, focused on bureaucracy. New succession laws. 14 New political schemes. A new dynasty legacy called Bureaucracy. New units, artifacts, character assets, and cultural traditions. The most exciting addition, for me, is the Landless Adventurers: “a new government focused on informal groups of characters, allowing players to traverse the map and use the medieval world as a backdrop for smaller, character-focused roleplay”.
Six Days In Fallujah AI Update
Six Days In Fallujah- the somehow problematic first-person shooter according to terrible games journalists who hate history– is getting a big update called “Command and Control”. It’s things like these that have me expectant for this update “Your favorite Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six games offer players all the time in the world (…) Over 100 Marines, Soldiers, and civilians we spoke with made it very clear to us that this is not how real-world combat works. As a result, combat and command don’t wait for you in Six Days”.
Burden of Command Has a Demo
One of the most anticipated wargames of all time, World War 2 Burden of Command has a live demo if you want to give it a go. After being impressed by what’s trying to do, I’m equally baffled as to why Green Tree Games would release the demo out of nowhere, instead of waiting for something like a Steam Event or a Steam Fest.
Ara: History Untold Less Than Stellar Reviews
It looks like Civilization is still the undethroned king of historical 4X strategy. Having released on the 24th of September, ARA: History Untold strategy to replace Civilization as the benchmark 4X title isn’t going great, and the game’s currently sitting at a mixed Steam rating of 65%, with only 700 reviews. Criticism ranges from poor performance to bad combat, and even worse diplomacy. Another title that came and went like a stinky fart in a tropical storm.

63 Days Out Now
Set during the Warsaw Uprising, and developed by the same team who created War Mongrels, 63 Days is a gritty real-time-stealth strategy game similar to Commandos. The game is out now and costs around 25 USD or your regional equivalent.
Age of Mythology: Retold -Immortal Empires
The really good Age of Mythology: Retold is getting its first expansion. Immortal Pillars brings the Chinese pantheon, with new regular and myth units, as well as a new campaign.
Builders of Egypt Release Date
This historical city-builder has been cooking for at least 7 years, and it’s finally coming out in January 2025. Taking close inspiration from the Impression games of yore, Builders of Egypt is an economic city-building game set in the Valley of the Nile. There’s a demo, if you’re looking to try it.
