What Happened At Home Of Wargamers 2024?

Matrix Games came out swinging again with some of the most exciting wargaming news of 2024! There’s also a massive sale going on. Here’s the digest of what happened at the Home of Wargamers 2024:

Armored Brigade 2

Let’s start with the highlight of the event: We finally got a long gameplay slice of Armored Brigade 2, and it’s looking as excellent as I expected it would. The original is one of my favorite wargames, despite the terrain reading being terrible. The third dimension will fix that, and Armored Brigade will finally be near perfect.

Commander: Europe at War

A 3D remake of the 2007 Matrix games, Commander: Europe at War was announced. The remake will improve on the game’s AI, User Interface, and diplomacy system. The graphics look smooth and soothing with its pastel color pallete.

Flahspoint Campaigns: Cold War

Cold is going to be set in the 1980s along the West German frontier and it’s going to offer players a lot more content than what the team was able to do in Flashpoint Campaigns: Southern Storm. I was left wondering if it was going to be a new game, but the developer calling it a “new starting point” leads me to believe it is.

Modern Naval Warfare

The United States Navy was the star of the next-generation naval combat simulator, Modern Naval Warfare. The lead developers showed their progress and released a new trailer featuring the titular US Navy alongside a gameplay sequence showing an attack on a Chinese vessel.

Rule The Waves 3: Expanded Battles

Rule the Waves 3 first DLC is on the way and it’s adding, for the first time, a scenario editor. You’ll be able to customize the period of the fleets, the location of the battle, the composition of the fleets, their formations, and all. The goal of the team is to allow players the ability to create their historical battles.

Additionally, several pre-made historical battles will be included. The beta testing is set to begin in early 2025. This DLC might have me finally jump into the game.

I would love for Strategy and Wargaming to go ad-free, and if you would like to support me with that, you can subscribe to my Patreon for a measly 3 dollars a month, or buy me a coffee for a dollar or a couple if you’re feeling generous. If you can’t, no worries, Strategy and Wargaming will always be free!
