Theatre of War: Rearmed
I was not the biggest fan of the Theatre of War franchise when it first came out. The fact that the thing barely worked at an acceptable framerate was the biggest hurdle. However, the classic real-time tactics franchise gets a massive modern upgrade in Theatre of War: Rearmed. Unifying the original game and its standalone expansions onto an updated 64-bit engine, the demo offers a preview of the game’s refined UI, enhanced visual effects, and overhauled AI. Finally, after all these years, the Rearmed version of the game arrives to prove that behind all those woes there’s a fantastic game underneath. There you have it, guys. The best strategy games to play in this Steam Next Fest. The list is solid, and it has me hopeful for the near future of strategy games. It’s especially solid when it comes to wargames, with Steel Company and Theatre of War: Rearmed being my personal standouts, with Steel Wolverines coming right after. What about you?
