Crown of Hispania Is Out Now
Crown of Hispania came out on September 22 into Steam’s Early Access program, and it lets you game out the process of the Reconquista as you see fit. For those who might be unaware of what the Reconquista was, it was an 8-century-long fight in the Iberian Peninsula to defeat and expel the Muslim-occupied parts of the Peninsula, more commonly known as the period of Al-Andalus. This is the game I plan on playing this weekend, and maybe write a first impressions take on it.
Crown of Hispania is expected to stay in Early Access for at least 12 months, and during this time the team will be working on adding new in-game events, intrigue and espionage, rebellions, more economic development mechanics, and improvements to the cultural and religious systems. Since I’m a massive fan of the time period, I cannot wait to give this one a go. I hope it doesn’t disappoint.
County of Fortune Comes Out November 5th
County of Fortune takes the concept of a medieval city-builder and decides to up the ante quite a bit. In this upcoming title from Nepos Games, players will be building not just a town or a city, but an entire medieval county. This essentially means that you’ll be managing several small towns, cities, and hamlets all at once. Imagine Manor Lords, but multiply that by ten. The game is promising an in-depth resource, logistics, and trading system, but I’ll reserve my opinions until after I’ve played it.
The game is set to be in EA for 12 to 18 months, and the team will use this extra time to complete the game by expanding the settlement and cultural systems, refining the gameplay, and improving visuals.
Empire in Decay
Stardock Entertainment and Siesta Games have announced Empire in Decay, a dark fantasy roguelike deckbuilder (what a mouthful) featuring turn-based tactical combat inspired by chess. The game features 4 different factions to choose from, over 200 cards to use and upgrade, 24 units with unique progression paths, and over 150 items to use to your advantage.
Dominion Days Brings Strategy Games and Strategy Gamers Together
Strategy game publisher Slitherine has partnered with Berlin’s annual gaming festival, Games Ground, to launch Dominion Days. This is Europe’s first dedicated showcase, self-described as “Dominion Days is a dedicated space for strategy games, designed to be a place where strategy players don’t simply pass through on their way to the next attraction, but can fully immerse themselves in the games and community they love”. Taking place on November 7 and 8, the two-day event will transform a customized hall at Games Ground into a hub for fans of historical strategy, grand strategy, wargames, and tactical titles, something that strategy players rarely get at large gaming events.
Dominion Days is fully integrated into Games Ground, with no separate ticket required to enter the strategy showcase.
Republican Bayonets on the Rhine – Game of the Week
This week’s wargaming bonanza goes to Napoleonic Battles: Republican Bayonets on the Rhine, on sale for 25% off, costing soon-to-be field marshals just $29.95. This is the twelfth installment in the Napoleonic Battles series and recreates those that took place from 1792 to 1800. Featuring 4 Grand campaigns, 37 different maps, and a total of 296 scenarios playable on both sides, this is a considerable wargame that will keep you entertained for months. If you so desire, there’s also the possibility of creating your own scenarios and campaigns, just in case you want to expand it even further.
