1- Ultimate General: Civil War
My opinion might upset a couple of you with this one, but Ultimate General: Civil War is- in fact- my favorite American Civil War videogame of all time. It picks up on where Ultimate General: Gettysburg left off, and expands the scope tremendously while keeping the same fantastic AI, smooth controls, and beautiful graphics. Instead of re-inventing what didn’t need to be reinvented, the team added a campaign layer (even if mostly on rails) and recreated the major battles of the American Civil War.
The game is one of those rare hardcore titles that manages to offer a unique blend of historical accuracy and accessible gameplay, allowing players to command vast armies on the field, and make strategic decisions. The game’s emphasis on grand-scale battles, combined with its intuitive controls and stunning visuals, makes it a thrilling experience for both casual and hardcore strategy gamers.
Personally, Ultimate General: Civil War is a must-play for anyone interested in videogames about the American Civil War.
