Top 10 Multiplayer Strategy Games To Play in 2026

4 – Gates of Hell: Ostfront

For those who find Company of Heroes a bit too “arcadey,” Gates of Hell: Ostfront is the answer. This is a game for the realism enthusiasts. The ability to take direct control of any single unit, from a sniper to a heavy tank, adds a layer of immersion that is rare in the genre. Every shell has physical properties, and a lucky shot can knock out a tank’s engine or kill the commander. It is brutal, unforgiving, and deeply rewarding when a plan finally comes together. Gates of Hell has an extremely active multiplayer community, both competitive and co-op. Add to that extremely tasty cake the icing of a profiled modding scene, and you’ve got, quite possibly, the most complete real-time strategy World War 2 game to date.

3 – Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition

It is incredible that a game originally released in 1999 is still one of the most popular strategy titles in the world. Given that we’re talking about the Definitive Edition here, it’s amazing that the base design that was created nearly 30 years ago is still extremely beloved, and Age of Empires 2 is one of the most played strategy games in 2026, multiplayer included, with new DLCs constantly being added. The balance between the dozens of civilizations isn’t easy, but I’ll be damned if the team doesn’t work hard to try and make every single one of those as unique and as useful as possible, even in a hyper-competitive environment. Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is the definitive real-time strategy experience, focusing on base building, resource management, and iconic medieval warfare. Now, Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition is even available on console, on the PlayStation 5 and the Xbox!

2 – StarCraft 2: Wings of Liberty

StarCraft 2 remains the peak of high-speed, precise, and competitive RTS design. The three factions (Terran, Zerg, and Protoss) are perfectly asymmetrical, offering completely different playstyles and plenty of back and forth when it comes to designing strategies and counters. Predominantly a multiplayer experience, with a very hardcore community, and plenty of content and guides to start learning. Even if you aren’t interested in the hyper-competitive multiplayer, the Wings of Liberty campaign is one of the best ever crafted, with creative missions and a great story that keeps you moving forward.
