Strategy and Wargaming News – 5 April 2026 – MicroProse Mega-Announcements, Xenonauts 2 Full Release, Broken Arrow Free DLC, and Much More

It has been an absolutely breakneck week for the strategy and wargaming world. If you thought March was busy, April is kicking off with a literal barrage of news. We’ve got legendary names like MicroProse and Heroes of Might and Magic returning to the spotlight, massive overhauls of several games, and enough DLC to keep your hard drive screaming for mercy.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era April Release Date

The king of fantasy strategy is returning. Hooded Horse and Unfrozen have confirmed that Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era will enter Steam Early Access on April 30th. This “return to roots” entry is looking to capture the spirit of the third game while adding modern quality-of-life improvements and a beautiful new art style. It’s easily one of the most anticipated releases of the month, and I was absolutely delighted with it when I previewed it for the first time in September of 2025.

Broken Arrow: Baltic Battalion Free DLC

The Baltic Battalion DLC for Broken Arrow is now live and, incredibly, it’s free. This update adds the combined forces of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia as a playable specialization. With unique European equipment and a focus on asymmetric mobility, it’s a perfect tool for players who prefer surgical strikes over brute force. This DLC brings a fast-paced and tempo-oriented deck that can be combined with every other U.S. deck to create some interesting variants. Having played around with it for a total price of zero dollars, this one is definitely worth checking out.

MicroProse Announces Gunship Origins

The legendary name is back with a vengeance. MicroProse has officially announced Gunship Origins, a modern combat helicopter experience that looks to recapture the magic of the classic 80s sim with 2026 fidelity. You’ll be stepping into the cockpit of iconic birds like the AH-64 Apache and the UH-60 Blackhawk. The game promises a career mode where you rise from Warrant Officer to Colonel, earning medals across dynamic, terrain-accurate battlefields. It even supports 8-player co-op, allowing for full multi-crew operations in the same airframe. There’s no denying the machines on display here do look incredibly detailed. I’m wondering how it will strike a balance between realism and arcade.

Commandos: Origins – No Man Left Behind DLC

Kalypso has revealed the next mission briefing for Commandos: Origins. The upcoming DLC, titled No Man Left Behind, shifts the focus to a daring rescue operation in occupied France. The pack includes four new missions and introduces a new enemy type: the Radio Operator, who can call in reinforcements if you aren’t quick enough to cut his signal. It’s set to deploy on April 28th, and it will set you back €14.99 | £12.99 | $14.99, depending on your location. There will be a 10% launch discount for 14 days on Steam and 7 days on the Epic Games Store.

  1. So MicroProse is pushing Russian propaganda (“Ukrainian Warfare: Gostomel Heroes”)? How about: “Concentration Camp Tycoon”? I’ve bought my last MicroProse game.

    1. As far as I know, MicroProse isn’t publishing the game, that’s not mentioned here.

      1. Reading is hard, apparently. Anyway, I enjoyed “Syrian Warfare”, so this one might be good as well.

  2. Many conflicts invole horrific events and time tends to blur the realities (I say this as someone who plays Ostfront as the Germans/Wehrmact who where far from clean) but I know what they did. However, this one is really too soon Ukrainian Warfare: Gostomel Heroes. That is like making a video game of the Wehrmacht invasion of Poland in 1942. I would ask for that game to be removed. Was it added to be really controversial? It sullies your page, Sir.

    1. I won’t remove the mention. People are free to decide for themselves if they want to play it or not. However, I did update it to reflect the propagandistic nature of its Steam page.

      1. It’s your page and I enjoy reading it when it comes into my mailbox. I feel in this instance you make a
mistake giving this title airtime. I of course appreciate your honest reply.

  3. likewise. now an ex- microprose buyer and i’m removing the bookmark from this site

    1. Microprose isn’t mentioned, and as far as I know, it isn’t publishing the game. It’s a self publish title, according to Steam page. I updated it to reflect the propagandistic nature of its Steam page. As for the game itself, I didn’t think the demo was all that good.
