Hardcore grognards will have a new game to keep themselves entertained with WEGO World War 2: Overlord, a hex-based, operational-level wargame which includes 14 historical scenarios, including a massive 135-turn campaign that covers all of the Normandy campaign. I played it when it came out on the Matrix store, but struggled to find it interesting, so I fell off rather quickly and still haven’t found a reason to go back.

Paradox Interactive’s latest year-end report, released on January 29, 2026, revealed a stark contrast between strong revenue growth and a significant hit to its bottom line. Despite a 23% increase in quarterly revenue to SEK 874.8 million, bolstered by the successful launch of Europa Universalis V (the best strategy game of 2025) and steady performance from titles like Crusader Kings III, the company reported a massive 162% drop in operating profit, resulting in a loss of SEK 245.4 million for the fourth quarter. This financial downturn was primarily driven by a heavy SEK 355.3 million write-down of Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2, which CEO Fredrik Wester admitted failed to meet commercial expectations.

Wargame Design Studio Game of the Week

The best wargame on sale this week is Modern Campaigns: Danube Front ’85, and it’s currently 25% off. Set in an alternate version of History where the Cold War went extremely hot, Danube Front is composed of 94 detailed scenarios covering all sizes and battle situations, featuring a master map with over 200,000 hexes covering the area of the Rhine River, Denmark, Berlin, and Austria. As is to be expected with Wargame Design Studios, the game also features a very detailed Order of Battle of what might have been a realistic confrontation between NATO and the Warsaw Pact.

  1. Do you have any plans on reviewing War in Spain? It’s such a great game and I think it would be worth your time to give it a shot.
