AoE 2 Gets a New DLC, Task Force Admiral and Strategos Releasing This Month, and Hooded Horse Is Running a Steam Sale

The second week of 2026 brings us just a couple of exciting news. A new DLC for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, Hooded Horse has a sale and Calyx releases a campaign playtest anyone can enter, and TFA and Strategos arrive in January.

Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition Gets a New DLC

The Last Chieftains is arriving on February 17th and will once again expand Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition. This DLC is set in South America, during the late medieval period. The DLC will add three new civilizations: The Mapuche (strong cavalry), the Muisca (stronger at range), and the Tupi (strong infantry). Each one of these new civs will have its own campaign, and all will be available in ranked play.

Hooded Horse Steam Publisher Sale

I’m leaving this one here just in case you haven’t noticed it yet, but Hooded Horse (high-profile strategy games publisher that has games like Manor Lords and Terra Invicta under its banner) is currently running a Steam Sale on its catalogue, with some great deals you can take advantage of, just in case you haven’t spent enough money already during the Steam Winter Sale. Calyx Campaign Playtest Is Now Open

Calyx is shapping up to be one of the best real-time strategy games coming in 2026. In it, players are in charge of a space mining outpost and locked into a battle against an ever expanding alien force of invasive plants. You’ll be able to play until Monday, 12th January, so get on with it.

Task Force Admiral and Strategos Release Date

MicroProse Software is kicking off 2026 with a bang, releasing Strategos and Task Force Admiral in the same month, just a couple of days apart. Strategos, a real-time tactics wargame set in classical antiquity, will officially launch on Steam on January 20, and Task Force Admiral, a really good wargame, arrives on January 27th. If everything goes according to plan, I should be able to have both reviews up by the time they go live.

Wargame Design Studio Game of the Week

The Wargame Design Studio Game of the Week program is back, and 2026 is starting off with Civil War Battles: Campaign Chancellorsville at 25% off. The classic wargame covers the major battles of the campaign: Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Kelly’s Ford, and Marye’s Heights, and the game includes a total of 305 scenarios, from realistic engagements to plausible historical what-ifs. As is to be expected from the games of WDS, the game also features a very detailed and true-to-life order of battle covering the historical forces involved in the conflict.
