The 15 Best Real-Time Strategy (RTS) Games Coming In 2026

1 -Game of Thrones: War For Westeros

Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is sitting at the top of this list because, for years, I have been saying that the Game of Thrones setting is perfect for a strategy game. And for any kind of strategy game. The fact that we are getting an RTS is just the cherry on top of the cake. There’s so much to be excited for, from being able to participate on large‑scale real‑time battles to commanding the iconic Houses of the series like House Stark, House Lannister, House Targaryen and even the undead forces of the White Walkers, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros looks like its going to be the kind of game that, if ti manages to deliver on its promises, it could be widely loved by the whole RTS community. For me, Game of Thrones: War for Westeros is the game to wishlist for going into 2026, and the best real-time strategy (RTS) game coming in 2026.

  1. Fantastic list, all of these are on my wishlist!

    1. This isn’t to anyone but what about AoE4, StarCraft , and all the rest

  2. Really sad that DoW4 has decided to ship without Eldar. They have been my go-to faction in every 40K game so far that has included them. Will definitely wait until they come in a DLC, or outright skip this entry like I’ve skipped DoW3.

    1. I’m pretty sure they are coming on a DLC almost instantly. I didn’t DoW3 was a terrible game, it was just very bland.

  3. Bold of you to assume Falling Frontier is actually coming out next year. It’s been delayed so many times, and for so long, that I’ll only believe it’s released when I see it.

Don’t get me wrong; I really like what I’ve been seeing. FF has been pretty high up on my wishlist for a long time. That’s just it, however — I’ve been waiting for the game for over four years now. Yes, I’m aware the developer has quietly been continuing work on it, and I’m very glad to hear it. However, it doesn’t change the fact that this project has dragged on so absurdly long, that I simply cannot bring myself to believe any projected release date, unless & until it’s actually in the players’ figurative hands.

Speaking of long-term projects without a release date, DORF is the other game on your list I’m especially interested in. It’s a shame the devs haven’t been able to secure outside funding, as that obviously slows down the pace of development. Of all the RTS titles that have recently released, soon-to-be released, or are currently in development, DORF is by the far the one I’m most enthusiastic about. It just seems to really capture the essence of that old-school “C&C Red Alert” vibe that I so adore (even now, a man in my late 40’s). However long it takes the devs to make this game, I hope they’re able to get it across the finish line.

    1. One can only hope, am I right? Absolutely agree about D.O.R.F. and I’m not even sure why a company like Hooded Horse or MicroProse don’t pick them up, they are one of the most promising titles of the last 5 or so years.

  4. Dinolords

Remind me of old Jurassic Park 2 game
    Chaos Island: The Lost World

    1. I’ll look into it, never heard about it!

  5. What are you on about with DORF looks? It looks ok but dated, a C&C clone through and through. There are much more impressive looking ones in this list

    1. There are great games on the list, and D.O.R.F. looks amazing.
