5 – Blacksmith Master
Blacksmith Master came out in May 2025, and I have enjoyed the dozen or so hours I have spent with it, but I’m the kind of guy who always loves games where you can manage your own shop. The fun part of Blacksmith is that you need to manage the whole supply chain, from gathering materials to transforming them into items in your own furnaces and anvils, and then selling them to want-to-be-adventurers in your own shop. Or maybe just a family looking for some new silverware.
4 – Age of Wonder 4
Age of Wonders 4 is one of the best 4X games you can play in 2025, and for sure, the best fantasy 4X game you can play in 2025.
3 – Transport Fever 2
Have you ever played Transport Tycoon? If so, and you enjoyed it, then Transport Fever 2 is the game for you. If not, then imagine that you’re responsible for connecting towns, villages, cities, industrial centers, and tourist destinations together by building transportation infrastructure. That can be either by building roads, railway tracks, bridges, and tunnels to maritime shipping lanes or even airports.
2 – Against the Storm
An amazing game that brought us the concept of a city-builder with roguelite elements. Against the Storm is a dark fantasy city builder where the player must rebuild civilization as the Queen’s Viceroy, leading humans, lizards, foxes, and other animals to reclaim the wild. It’s a really in-depth city-builder with plenty of challenge, and its roguelike-ish nature means that you’ll constantly be doing the most exciting part of any city-building game, which is to start a new challenge from scratch and figure out new strategies to survive. Once you manage to do that, it’s time to move on and start anew in another region.
